For the fans of soccer nothing brings more pleasure than seeing their own team come out on top in matches and win titles. The Houston Dynamo has given its fans a lot to cheer about in the short time it has been gracing the soccer grounds around the country. The success on the field has translated into success off the field with supporters buying Houston Dynamo tickets to go and support their team everywhere.
The Houston Dynamo was formed just over seven years ago in 2005. Its history stems for the closure of the San Jose Earthquakes. The Earthquakes were owned by Anschutz Entertainment Group also known as AEG. AEG moved the team to Houston to find a soccer only stadium that they could not find in San Jose. A lot of the playing staff and the coach Dominic Kinnear also re-located to Houston. Problems arose when the management of MLS refused to transfer the records to the new team.
AEG then formed a new team called the Houston 1836 on 25th January 2006. The name was then changed to the Houston Dynamo as a tribute to an earlier soccer team from the city. Most of the players who formed the core of the team were the ones who had moved from San Jose Earthquakes with Dominic Kinnear taking the reigns as coach. The team made its debut at their home the Robertson Stadium against the Colorado Rapids. It was a successful start for the Dynamo’s who won the game by the score of 5-2. The team made its way to their conference semi final play off game against Chivas USA and won that game by the score of 3-1. In the final they went on to beat New England Revolution on penalties to win the trophy in their very first season.
The next season started off slowly for the Houston Dynamo but they upped the ante when it mattered most and went on an eleven game unbeaten run that transformed their campaign. They went to the final of the MLS to once again play against New England Revolution and won that game in normal time by two goals to one. It was a remarkable achievement to win two titles in a row in the first two seasons after its inception.
Oscar de la Hoya and Brener International Group joined hands with AEG to partially own the club. Under the terms of agreement AEG retained fifty shares whereas the two new partners were entitled to twenty five percent shares each. The club also started building its own twenty two thousand capacity stadium called the BBVA Compass Stadium which will play host to all the Houston Dynamo games from 2012 season onwards.
The natives of Houston finally have a soccer team they can call their own. The team is lucky to have such wonderful support that buys Houston Dynamo tickets for every game they play and this is an arrangement that is sure to bring more glory to the team in the foreseeable future and beyond.
