This year in collegiate football promises to be an exciting one, as some of the best teams' line up to play against each other. One of the regular season fixtures includes the football team, Florida Atlantic Owls, to play against the Wyoming Cowboys. Both teams ended the 2013 season with an average record. The Florida Owls ended with a 6-6 record, while the Cowboys ended with a 5-7 loss. This year, both the Owls and the Cowboys are determined to change their luck as they head towards the field with significant changes in their game.
The Wyoming Cowboys, established in 1892 are currently listed as a Division I team in the Football Subdivision of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. They play in the Mountain West Conference, and to date, they have won fifteen conference titles and four Consensus All-Americans. With almost over a thousand games played since their inaugural game in 1893, which they won with a clean sheet, the Cowboys have seen some exceptional football on the field. Some of their best includes the likes of players such as Jim Kiick Jerry Hill and Jay Novacek. This year, as they head into their one hundred and twenty first season of football, the team is determined to bag a winning percentage.
The Wyoming Cowboys will be headed by Coach Craig Bohl this year. 2014 will mark the first year of Bohl with the team, as the football program director, Tom Burman, lets go of the old coach. Burman claims that new blood is needed to take the team to new heights, and many are excited about the move. As they prepare to host their non-conference opponent on the field, many are hoping for a home ground win. The Cowboys and the Owls last met in 2009, and the Cowboys ended up defeating the Owls 30-28.
The Florida Atlantic Owls were formed in 2001, and currently play for the Conference USA in Division I of the National Collegiate Athletic Association. While their first two years were lackluster, they found their break in 2003, when they ended the season with an 11-3 winning percentage that got them voted as the number fourth best team in collegiate football. Recent years have seen them play among the top college teams, and this year, under the guidance of Charlie Partridge as Head Coach, the team is determined to regain the glory of 2003.
The game is all set to be played out at the War Memorial Stadium in Wyoming. This field, a custom built outdoor football stadium, is home ground for the Wyoming Cowboys. So while the Cowboys will be able to play at a home field advantage, the Florida Atlantic Owls will face the away disadvantage. Many are hopeful that the Owls won't cave in to the pressure that a hostile crowd might put on the team, and the squad itself is pumped to play a winning season this year.
