Fiji hails from the Island of Fiji and his love for his birthplace took him to adapt his moniker. His arrival to the world of mainstream music is interesting to say the least. Veikoso was always interested in singer. He started to sing at a very early age and was only eight and a half years old when he performed for the first time in front of a live audience. That performance earned him five dollars but his mother wasn’t too pleased about that. She wanted her son to stay away from what she called “worldly music.”
In order to do that, Fiji started to sing in a church every time he got the chance to do that. He just wanted to sing on the stage irrespective of where the stage came from. All that changed when three of his relatives, who were also his inspirations stepped in and encouraged the young Veikoso to pursue his dreams. Isireli Racule, Sakiusa Bulicokocoko and Paul Stevens all had quite a lot of experience in the world of music.
Veikoso was introduced to the music of famous artists like Marvin Gaye, Stevie Wonder, Third World, Bee Gees, Chaka Khan and Rufus, Parliament, Tower of Power, Earth Wind & Fire, the Average White Band and Janis Joplin. His passion to perform and step into the world of mainstream music was at its peak which eventually led to Veikoso’s mother raising her hands and letting her son pursue his dreams.
The coast was now clear so Fiji went and joined Rootstrata, a local band. That stint provided him invaluable insight on what it took to perform on a bigger scale. His next step was to to move to Hawaii and then to LA where he didn’t stay for more than a year. After cutting short his stay in Los Angeles, Veikoso decided to base himself in Hawaii.
His debut album was titled “Evolution” and it came out in the year 1994. The album turned out to be a big hit in Fiji and Hawaii. Three years later, he returned with his next album which was titled “Born & Raised.” It was another huge hit that won him multiple awards including being voted the “Favorite Entertainer of the Year” by the public.
Fiji has since released a self titled Indigenous Life, Independence Day, Xperience, The Best of Fiji, Transition and Gratitude to cement his place among the ranks of the most acclaimed and established stars. Now that he is on tour, this is your chance to grab Fiji tickets and be a part of a concert you certainly will not forget in a hurry.
