Bringing the best of men’s college basketball action, Crossroads Classic is back again for another edition that will offer the same excitement and thrill as the previous ones. The event was held for the first time in 2011, and like the past two events, it is going to be held at Bankers Life Fieldhouse in Indianapolis once again. The last two events attracted huge numbers in attendance so grab your Crossroads Classic tickets today to catch this year’s action live.
The event comprises of four Indiana based schools that compete for the victory as well as the bragging rights. The matter of who goes up against whom is decided by the number that year; so if it’s an even numbered year, Boilermakers go up against Notre Dame and Indiana competes with Butler. On the contrary, if it’s an odd numbered year then Butler goes up against Purdue Boilermakers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish goes up against Indiana Hoosiers. In any format, the teams of Hoosiers and Boilermakers never compete with each other in Crossroads Classic as the two teams are conference rivals. Their heated rivalry is witnessed during the regular season each year.
In 2011, the very first edition of Crossroads Classic was played on December 17 where Butler defeated Purdue with the final score of 67-65 while the Indiana swept away Notre Dame with the finishing score of 69-58. The second and the most recent Crossroads Classic took place on December 15, 2012 where Butler picked up its second victory with a win over Indiana while Notre Dame claimed its very first victory in the overall series with a win over Purdue. So far, Butler Bulldogs lead the series with two overall wins while Indiana Hoosiers and Notre Dame Fighting Irish have one victory each. Purdue has yet to claim a win in the series.
This year’s edition of Crossroads Classic will have Purdue Boilermakers taking on Butler Bulldogs and Notre Dame Fighting Irish going up against Indiana Hoosiers. The past two Crossroads Classics attracted well over 19,000 patrons to the Bankers Life Fieldhouse and same is expected for this year’s event as well. The success of past two events has also made way for the announcement of future games between the four teams in 2014, 2015 and 2016.
In the state of Indiana, Basketball has always enjoyed massive following on all levels on which the sport is played. College men’s basketball is one of those, and that has become evident by Crossroads Classic being way more successful than it was expected to be initially. The agreement was extended for 2013 and 2014 after the success of first two editions but after considering the high anticipation from the fan’s end, the agreement has been extended for 2015 and 2016 as well. With growing number of viewers coming to watch the event, it can be said that Crossroads Classic is college basketball’s annual tradition in the making.
