Coaches is a spectacular college basketball tournament held each year in the US and known fully as the Coaches vs Cancer Classic tournament. It takes place at the Brooklyn venue, Barclays Center, and is watched live by many as well as seen on TV, usually through live broadcasts by TruTV and other sports channels. Participating in this tournament are twelve of the best college basketball teams in the nation, representing universities that are renowned all over the world. In a short amount of time, this tournament has gained fame all over the US for a display of outstanding basketball causing many to get hold of Coaches tickets.
The Coaches vs Cancer Classic features twelve college basketball teams of which four are host schools. These four colleges play two games on campus and then move on to the Championship Rounds. These take place at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn. The rest of the teams take part in a round robin series held at one of two venues. To date, the Saint Joseph's Hawks men's basketball team has the largest number of appearances in the tournament, at three, whereas teams such as BYU Cougars men's basketball team, the Florida State Seminoles and the Notre Dame Irish men's basketball team have one appearance each.
In 2012, several college basketball teams are set to take part in the Coaches vs Cancer Classic tournament. These are the aforementioned BYU Cougars, the Florida State Seminoles, the Notre Dame Irish and the Saint Joseph's Hawks as well as the Tennessee State Tigers, the Georgia State Panthers, the South Alabama Jaguars, the Evansville Aces and the Yale Bulldogs. The Georgia State University and the Evansville University campuses will act as sub-host sites or venues for the round robin series featuring college teams that are not host teams.
The Saint Joseph's Hawks men's basketball team is the team with the most appearances in the tournament. As one of the best college basketball teams in the nation, it has appeared nineteen times in the national NCAA Tournaments, four times from 2001 to 2008 alone. They have also appeared in thirteen NIT Tournaments. They have ranked once in the NCAA Final Four, twice in the Elite Eights and a stunning seven times in the Sweet Sixteen. Twenty nine of their players have gone professional, playing in the NBA, and many more have gone on to play in other basketball leagues, teams and franchises outside of the NBA.
