California Cougars
The California Cougars are a member of the Major Indoor Soccer League (MISL). MISL is a single-entity organization that features top soccer talent representing players from 31 different countries and a coast-to-coast presence across the United States. The California Cougars, located in Stockton, California, play their home games at the state-of-the-art Stockton Area.
In February 2004, John Thomas acquired the rights of an expansion team in the Major Indoor Soccer League for Stockton, California. In order to represent all of northern California as a regional team, it was named the California Cougars.
Dennis Lukens, a former ?A' League GM, was the first General Manager, later succeeded by Emily Ballus, a former Executive with the WUSA. The club started their play in the 2005-2006 season after the construction of its Stockton Arena, an integral piece to the city's developing waterfront district.
The Arena opened to the public in December, 2005. Since Stockton Arena is positioned only 40 miles south of Sacramento, Cailfornia Cougars are hoping to draw fans of the old Sacramento Knights of the CISL and WISL.
Announced on February 28, 2004, The Cougars played their first game on February 28, 2004, but made their competitive debut in November, 2005. The team finished first 30-game regular season quite successively.
In August 2006, the Club was sold to Rick and Greg Toy and their brother in-law Jim Rachels. In May 2008, the team announced to join the Premier Arena Soccer League - Professional Division and would be renamed the Stockton Cougars.
The 4th Annual California Cougars Summer Soccer Camp program offers an awe-inspiring team camp experience. Coaches and experts will work with each team and will provide them with an analysis at the end of the week.
Also is there a Youth Skills Camp which provides children of all ages and skill levels a ?must-avail' opportunity to learn soccer from the pros. The Cougars camp focuses on teaching the correct execution of certain skills in your children to prepare players for the next level.
Be it a beginner, intermediate player or an advanced level team player, everyone is ensured to learn skills in a controlled, technical setting and then incorporate those skills in a game environment.
These 2008 California Cougars Summer Camps are directed by Cougars Head Coach Bernie Lilavois. His Camp staff is comprising Cougars Players including Antonio Sutton, Enrique Tovar, Evan McNeley, Semir Mesanovic and Goalkeepers Sanaldo and Matt McDougall to name a few.
The first summer camp in Manteca was held at Woodward Park and runs from June 2 to June 6, 2008. The second camp began on July 14 and ends July 18, 2008.
The Stockton camp was held at the Regional Sports Complex on Arch Road whereas the second session ran from July 28 to August 1, 2008. Camps in Lodi were held at Peterson Park from June 16 to June 20, 2008.
As of franchise's following games, Stockton Cougars will participate in the league's Western Division with Colorado, Denver and Wenatchee. The Eastern Division includes Cincinnati, St. Louis, Texas and Detroit.
