The Boston based Basketball Team, Boston Celtics was founded in 1946. It is a National Basketball Association team, and is currently owned by Boston Basketball Partners LLC, and plays for Atlantic division of the Easter conference. TD Banknorth Garden is the home ground for Celtics, which has been the only NBA team winning eight consecutive championships in a row. Celtics have had a great history winning 11 championships in 13 years in the 60s along with other great records. They’ve been one of the leading NBA teams of all times, playing with some great players like Bob Cousy, Larry Bird, Bill Russel and John Havlicek in the decades of 50s through 80s, dominating the horizon of Basketball in the USA.
Another significant milestone in the history of Celtics was the era under the management of Red Auerbach, who brought 7 titles for the Celtics, and discovered and brought to team some of the greatest basketball players of history including the ‘Big 3’, namely Robert Parish, Larry Bird and Kevin McHale. Other important players brought to team by Auerbach included McKinney, Ed Macauley, Bill Sharman, Frank Ramsey and Jim Loscutoff. He also made history by picking Chuck Cooper in 1950, the first black American ever to be included in any NBA squad.
Among the milestone matches Celtics have won was the 1976 NBA Eastern conference playoff finals, that they won in the Cavaliers vs Celtics match against the Cleveland Ohio based basketball team, the Cleveland Cavaliers, playing as an expansion team in NBA since 1970. They played in Cleveland Arena (as their home ground) but did not have a very successful start. The team struggled under the supervision of chief coach Bill Fetch, and compiled the league’s worst 15/67 record, and even the introduction of Notre Dame high scorer Austin Carr in 1971 could not lift up the team’s performance. Later, players like Jim Chones, Cleamons, and Bingo Smith improved the team’s performance. In the 1974-75 season the team played remarkably well, and finished a 40-42 record and moved to the new home ground, the Richfield Coliseum in Richfield Township, Ohio.
The Cavs saw many ups and downs in their career. After being sold from one owner to another, changing colors from one set to another, finally in early 2000, the addition of LeBron James and new coach Mike brown and later Byron Scott helped Cavs score a good position among the rankings. Even after the departure of LeBron James the team continues to play good basketball and thrill the fans.
The Cavaliers and the Celtics have met multiple times in very thrilling matches, including 1976 NBA playoff finals, in 1985 when Celtics broke Cavs winning season’s winning streak, and recently in 2010. They have played sensational games and have consistently shown remarkable improvement. For this upcoming match, Cavaliers vs Celtics tickets are likely to be sold like hot cakes as the fans await two of their favorite teams in an action packed game.
