Based in Nashville, Tennessee, Belmont Bruins compete in the Atlantic Sun Conference while representing Belmont University on the Basketball court.
Recently, team made its appearance NCAA Division I Men's Basketball tournament under the leadership of head coach, Rick Byrd. On the whole, Bruins have made 3 NCAA Tournament appearances; however they didn't win any.
In 2008, Bruins were seeded at #15 and played in the Western region against Duke Blue Devils. The Bruins came pretty close to causing an upset and suffered the loss with a mere difference of only one point, 71-70.
In the second half of the game, Bruins had a 70-69 lead, however later the Duke scored a basket and the winning basket in final few minutes of the game.
Bruins' on court action isn't the only way the fans are entertained; while watching Bruins battle it out on the court, several people making the fans experience even more entertaining by working in a concert.
Some of the most talented and gifted musicians in Nashville are featured in the Belmont pep band. The pep band keeps the environment more energetic and entertaining during the game play, under the direction of Belmont University's Music Department.
Belmont Cheerleaders are no less talented than the Belmont Pep Band as well. The Belmont Cheerleader's squad is led by former Alabama Crimson Tide Cheerleader, Lindsey Tonkin.
Belmont's cheerleaders' squad is considered the premier squad in the conference due to their challenging and different varieties of the routines that they improvise.
Belmont's Cheerleader's reflect the pride and prestige of the university it self while keeping audiences of all the ages entertained, alike.
These Belmont Spirit Teams play a vital role in the University's basketball program, whether it is NCAA tournament game or Battle of Boulevard contest.
An annual fundraising program, The Bruin Club, is also being held every year since 1975. The program raises funds for intercollegiate athletics and also provides additional support needed by the Belmont Student Athletes.
The central motive, for which the foundation of The Bruin Club was laid, was to support the athletic scholarships and program enhancements, financially.
In order to cope with the growing financial needs of the high class competition, it has became the necessity to support the athletic department of the university from the funds that are collected by The Bruin Club, while most of the portion of the operating funds is received from the institution.
Another reason why The Bruins Club was formed was to further enhance the development and the achievements of the university's athletics department, through assistance received from friends and alumni.
Bruins fans can also play vital role in the further development and improvement of the university's athletics department and help Bruins achieve more success in future.
As the time goes by, the club is growing and excelling even more, and by providing improved level of competition, it has earned interest of its massive fan base.
