AXA FC Barcelona
Football Club Barcelona is a sports club based in Barcelona, Catalonia, Spain. It was founded in 1899 by Joan Gamper. The club has become a Catalan institution.The club was also the first La Liga champions. With 18 La Liga, 24 Copa del Rey, 7 Supercopa de Espa?a, 32 Joan Gamper Trophy, 2 UEFA Champions League, 4 UEFA Cup Winners' Cup, 3 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup/UEFA Cup and 2 European Super Cup trophies, the club is considered to be one of the most successful clubs in football history in Spain, in Europe and in the entire world.
The club's main stadium is the Camp Nou and the fans of FC Barcelona are known as culers. In June 2007, the number of socis reached 156,366, while in June 2006 the number of penyes reached 1782 worldwide.The club also operates a reserve team, FC Barcelona B, a youth team FC Barcelona C and four other professional sports teams, AXA FC Barcelona, FC Barcelona, FC Barcelona Futsal and FC Barcelona Sorli Discau that compete at basketball, handball, festal and rink hockey respectively.
History
Early years (1899-1908)
On 22 October 1899 Joan Gamper placed an advert in Los Deports declaring his wish to form a football club. A positive response resulted in a meeting at the Gimnasio Sole on November 29. Eleven players attended it. As a result Foot-Ball Club Barcelona was born. FC Barcelona is known to become a Catalan/regional institution. So after this the motto is El Bar?a ?s m?s que un club which means Bar?a is more than a club. The number of club members reached 144,892 by July 2006. The club's main stadium, Camp Nou is famous for its La Liga football team and the reserve football team FC Barcelona B. In 1928. La Liga had its founding members as the senior team. Though it was along with Real Madrid and Athletic Bilbao but they have never been submitted from the Primera Divisi?n.
Other than football, the club includes three other teams like basketball, handball and rink hockey. Some efficient amateur teams compete at festal, rugby union, women's basketball, women's football and wheelchair basketball. These amateur teams include FCB Rugby, UB-Bar?a and FC Barcelona-Institute Guttman. Other playing amateur teams represent the club at ice hockey, athletics, baseball, cycling, field hockey, figure skating, and volleyball. Though Barca denied allowing any sponsorship logos on their shirts but team have won TV3 logo of Televisi? de Catalunya on the left arm since 2005. In addition to this, the club announced a five year agreement with UNICEF on 14 July 2006, which includes having the UNICEF logo on their shirts. The agreement will see Barcelona donating US$1.9 million per year to UNICEF.
Winterthur FCB is a Spanish basketball team. It is part of the FC Barcelona family and was founded on August 24th 1926. The club has won seven of the last eleven Spanish League titles and in 2003 completed a Spanish League, Copa del Rey de Baloncesto and Euroleague treble. In 2004 the Winterthur Group, a Swiss insurance since 1910, became the team sponsors. The team also became known as Winterthur FCB. The team plays their home games at Palau Blaugrana. They share the facilities with the roller hockey and five-a-side football teams
The Euroleague is currently contested in four phases. Phase one is the regular season, in which 24 teams plays two games against every other team in its group. At the end of the regular season, the field will have been cut down to 16 teams. The second phase, known as the Top 16, then begins. As in the regular season, each Top 16 group is contested in a double round-robin format.The third phase, the quarterfinal round, has been played since the 2004-05 season. The first- and second-place teams from each group advance and the first-place team from each group is matched against a second-place team from another group in a best-of-three series.
