Details of Austin Rodeo and the Ticket Luck value
Western culture is a lot more than swaggering cowboys and shimmering silver spurs. The rich heritage encompasses not only rodeo sports, but also country-themed music, and a distinctive pride of their livestock. Austin Rodeo brings out the best in a colorful celebration of this beautiful heritage. Since 1938, the tradition has lit up spring in Travis County, as the region’s third largest economic machine pumps in the revenue by bringing Texas’s greatest carnival to town. The Professional Rodeo Cowboys Association recognizes Austin Rodeo, with the Wild West Show also accredited by the Federation Equestre Internationale (FIE). The demand for Austin Rodeo tickets is certainly generating much clamor with the event in full flow.
Austin Rodeo features professional rodeo (ProRodeo) events. The oldest is Calf Roping. It involves roping a running calf with a lariat and dismounting to tie three of its legs, with the horse backing off slowly. Team Roping sees both genders participate, with a “header” and a “heeler”. Steer wrestling is highly dangerous, involving jumping off a charging horse onto a Corriente steer and wrestling it down. Agility and timing is tested to the hilt in Barrel racing, with the horse maneuvering between strategically placed barrels without knocking them over. Bareback and Saddle Bronc riding use specific riggings and western saddles respectively, while Bull riding involves the more precarious act of riding full-grown bulls. Apart from ProRodeo, children between 5 and 7 and weighing less than 55 pounds take part in Mutton Bustin’, riding their woolly sheep for six seconds into the competition. Each participating child receives a State Farm Trophy. For all professional competitions, there are cash awards and Championship trophies.
West 11th Street and Congress Avenue hosted the first “Baby Beef”, as it was then known, in 1938 with 16 animals. This was Austin Rodeo’s home till 1971’s intervention by L.J. Luedecke, who donated 21 acres to help the event acquire a permanent facility. The 6,500 capacity arena in the Travis County Exposition Center, completed in 1983, was named after him and serves as the current home.
Dodge Vehicles is the Grand Champion sponsor, while HEB, State Farm, and The Grass Patch landscaping are other major sponsors. Management of Austin Rodeo includes CEO Bucky Lamb, Senior Managers Katy Blankinship and Johnny Philipello, and Marketing Manager Jennie Richmond. Volunteers also play an active hand. It is a family-oriented carnival, with fairs, pie-eating contests, various kids’ competitions, and a stellar concert lineup. Demi Lovato, Sara Evans, The Bellamy Brothers, Stoney Larue, Bret Michaels, Glen Campbell, The Band Perry, Gavin Degraw, Josh Turner, Jake Owen, Kevin Fowler, and Josh Abbott Band will all feature this year. Being socially conscious, the event also raises funds for educational scholarships of deserving students, with annual grants exceeding $350,000.
Whether you are a fanatic for adrenaline-pumping, nail-biting rodeo or a parent looking for serene quality family time amidst a vibrant culture, Austin Rodeo will fulfill those needs. The convivial atmosphere is afforded by the purchase of Austin Rodeo tickets for this year’s extravaganza.
