At the end of every year, on the earliest Saturday in December the well established Atlantic Coast Conference (ACC) holds a college football matchas per American tradition, to announce its football champion. This football game is known as ACCChampionship and its Coastal Division winner then goes on to confront in a game the winner of the Atlantic Division, while following the regular season. The corporate sponsor of the Championship is well-known Dr. Pepper while game’s television broadcasting deal is set with ABC. 
 
 
Prior to the college football season of 2004, the ACC marked its champion through what is called ‘a round-robin play’ while the regular season was on and no particular championship match was needed. However, in 2004 the ACC expanded its league to eleven teams by bringing in two new teams, namely Miami and Virginia Tech, the addition of which did not pose the need for a change yet since college football teams were restricted by the NCAA to only eleven regular season games. After 2004, a twelfth team namely Boston College, was added to the league giving it the prerequisites needed to hold a championship game and so at the end of 2005 the conference held its very first ACC Championship. The very first ACC Championship tickets featured the game in Jacksonville in Florida, from where the game was broadcasted on ABC throughout America and was given a 5.1 Nielsenrating that essentially meant the game’s popularity went higher than that of the Southeastern Conference Championship Games and the Big 12 Championship Games.
 
 
In October 2004, the ACC finally devised a new structure for its football games that was organized between two divisions such that ACC Championship game would be held between the respective winners of the Coastal and Atlantic Divisions. According to the new plan both the division with six teams each, would conduct a round-robin play schedule within itself and then plays against the teams from the other division in a rotation of three conferences. In each division, the team that has the highest conference scores gets to participate in the ACC Championship. In case there is a tie between the teams of the same division, the results and scores of head-to head matches plus divisional records are analyzed. Interestingly each team in the two divisions has to play against its rival team from the other division every year, which is why the following football games are played for certain: North CarolinaState vs. North Carolina; Clemson vs. Georgia Tech; Virginia vs. Maryland; WakeForest vs. Duke; Virginia Tech vs. BostonCollege; and Miami vs. FloridaState.
