Having being knocked out by Jhonny Gonzalez in one round last August, Abner Mares said ".that won't happen again,' while commenting on the rematch between the boxers that is scheduled for February in Los Angeles. Mares is determined to take revenge from Gonzalez who defeated him through knockout in August. 'I'm one of the elite and I have to defeat Jhonny,' said Mares at another place. While on the other hand Jhonny Gonzalez says 'It is a very important fight.' Both the boxers are determined and enthusiastic to defeat the other. See it for yourself who gives tough time to the other and walks away as a winner with Abner Mares vs. Jhonny Gonzalez tickets.
When Abner made his professional debut as a boxer, he defeated Puerto Rican Luis Malave. At the age of 29 has won the world titles in three weight divisions. They include IBF Bantamweight, WBC Featherweight and WBC Super Bantamweight. The IBF Bantamweight was won by Abner against Joseph Agbeko who was ranked at number 3. This title was won by Abner after a couple of rematches that took place due to the controversies that followed each match. Finally, on December 3 2011, Abner won the Bantamweight when he defeated Agbeko by 118-110. The WBC featherweight title that Abner had to his name after winning against Daniel Ponce de Leon in May was lost in August when he was knocked out by Gonzalez. A re-match that is scheduled this February will be Abner's fight to regain the lost weight division. He has retained the other two weight divisions that he won and now will fight to regain the third one which he lost last year.
The current boxer who has to his name the WBC Featherweight Championship is Jhonny Gonzalez, from whom Abner wants to snatch back his lost weight division. Unlike Abner, Gonzalez did not make his debut as a winner. He lost his first match to Mario Perez with a score 0-1. Then followed a series of wins and losses where he won Bantamweight, Super Bantamweight and Featherweight. He won the WBO bantamweight championship against Ratanachai Sor Vorapin and retained the bantamweight the following year when he defeated Fernando Montiel with 2-1. Gonzalez lost the WBO World Bantamweight title in 2007 against Gerry Penalosa and in 2009 faced another loss when he was fighting for the WBC World Super Bantamweight title but was defeated by Toshiaki Nishioka. The WBC World Featherweight title that Gonzalez won in 2011 was lost by him in 2012 in a match against Daniel Ponce de Leon. He has won the WBC Featherweight title last year against Abner Mares which he wants to retain.
See whether Gonzalez snatches away the title from Mares or Mares retains the title that he has to his name in a re-match scheduled on 15th February.
