Tavares is a group of five brothers who first named the band as Chubby and the Turnpikes. Before changing its name to Tavares in 1973, the band released a couple of hits like "Nothing but Promises" and "I Know the Inside Story." The same year the band released "Check it Out," which became their first R&B Top 10 hit. The most successful year for the band was 1974 when their R&B smash hit "It Only Takes a Minute" came out. The song was included in the band's third studio album "In the City" which charted at number eight on the US R&B albums chart. Despite their hit R&B numbers, Tavares is considered as an accomplished disco act. The band gave the soundtrack of the film "Saturday Night Fever" which won them a Grammy Award in 1979. The band has so far released a total of twelve studio albums and seven compilation albums.
The Tramps was one of the first disco bands that emerged on the musical scene. The band started recording in 1972 and released the cover of "Zing! Went the Strings of my Heart." The song was an instant hit landing on the Top 20 US R&B chart and was the Tramp's first major success. "Love Epidemic" released in 1973 was the band's debut disco song. The band reached new height of success in 1976 with the release of "Disco Inferno" which charted at number eleven on the Billboard Hot 100. The song won the band its first Grammy Award in 1977. It became a US pop hit which was covered by singers like Cyndi Lauper and Tina Turner. The band remained active for just eight years in which eight studio albums were released.
Hailing from Canada, France Joli is a renowned disco singer who was interested in music from an early age. She used to sing Barbra Streisand songs at the age of four. Moved by her passion to sing, the musician Tony Green wrote "Come to Me" for her, which was released in 1979, when Joli was just a teenager. The song became a disco classic and reached number one on the Billboard Hot Dance Club Play. The song charted at number fifteen on the Billboard Hot 100. Later, Joli released chart topping singles like ""Don't Stop Dancing," "Heart to Break the Heart" and "Gonna Get Over You." She has released eight studio albums and continues to perform at various disco balls.
Another famous disco singer who will be making it to the stage at Bell Bottom Ball is Bonnie Pointer from the Pointer Sisters. She started off her musical career in 1969 and recorded hits like "Yes We Can Can" for their self-titled debut album. Pointer left the band in 1977 and started her solo career. She released a total of four albums and continues to perform solo as well as along with her Pointer sisters.
The famous synthpop and disco group from the 90s, Lime (consisting of Joy Dorris and Rob Hubertz) will also be coming to the show. The group is famous for hits like "Angel Eyes" and the number one US Dance hit "Your Love", which was also featured in Summer Lovers.
