Anne Lamott is a well-known American novelist and writer who is also deeply generously involved in teaching writing. Alongside literary interests and reputation, she has established herself as a strong public speaker and political activist. Her non-fiction texts are considered to be largely and mainly autobiographical and reflect the San Francisco Bay Area surroundings of the talented author. Lamott's writing are very frequently filled with delightful openness and somewhat self-deprecating humor, while touching upon and covering such general societal matters like single motherhood, alcoholism, Christianity and depression. Lamott has thus sought to address the very issues prevalent in the Western society, discussing how to deal with them tactfully while in accordance with Christian teachings. Her powerfully overwhelming views have made Anne Lamott tickets a popular topic of town dailies among those concerned about such issues and problems.

Born in San Francisco, Anne Lamott graduated from Drew School, while watching her father follow in the profession of writing. Lamott was close to her father and gathered much inspiration from him in her impressionable years, with her father being the person to encourage her to chase her literary talents as well. His death has remarkable impact on her life which is hugely reflected in very first novel that got published, which was called Hard Laughter and thematically concentrated on the death of her esteemed father. Lamott has a son named Sam, born to her in 1989. She is also blessed with a grandson named Jax.

Anne Lamott's life was creatively made the subject of a famous documentary titled Bird by Bird with Annie: A Film Portrait of Writer AnneLamott, which made in 1999 by Freida Lee Mock. Due to the incredible documentary and Lamott's large fan base and following through Facebook alongside some other widely used online networks, Lamott is now often refered to as the People's Author. According to Lamott the reasons why chose to write and still continues to do so, are that she enjoys communicating substance with complete and almost naked honesty. She explains that she tried hard to write the kind of books that she herself would like to read, which means the books have to be an honest endeavor that focuses on concern for humanity, real lives in this world, hearts and feelings, families, spiritual transformation, secrets, wild craziness and wonder. Things that are important and things that can make one laugh.

Anne Lamott's writing philosophy is that the kind of books she intends to write should carry a certain levitating sense of relief that encompasses the reader and transfers a calmness that is otherwise hard to find in the world of chaos. She says that if she were to come across such a book, she would feel 'rich' while at the same time feel deeply relieved by the fact that there is someone else out there who is dedicated to sharing the truth with her, in a way that suggests that some attention has been paid to human issues. These are the kind of books she has been aspired to write---the type that serve as a therapy of sorts, and are truly nourishing with their medicinal curing, helpful and liberating impact.

The heavily compelling and powerfully cogent writing style of Anne Lamott can be categorized as the nonfiction narrative method known as particularism, which is essentially a literary theory that considered the details of a text to be of far more significance than the characteristics it shares with other narratives. Lamott has written several novels that have garnered much critical acclaim, which include Hard Laughter Rosie, Joe Jones, All New People, Crooked Little Heart, Blue Shoes and Imperfect Birds. Her nonfiction texts include Operating Instructions: A Journal of My Son's First Year, Bird by Bird: Some Instructions on Writing and Life, Traveling Mercies: Some Thoughts on Faith and Plan B: Further Thoughts on Faith.
