UFC 126 would be hosted by the American mixed martial arts promotion company named Ultimate Fighting Championship or UFC, the company that holds many fighting events around the world every year featuring most of the renowned fighters across the globe. UFC is basically themed to provide a competitive analysis of different martial arts to find out which one is most effective. The company operates enforces Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts in its games, and has seven categories of fighters according to weight. Zuffa LLC is the parent company for UFC, and is run by Lorenzo and Frank Fertitta, while current UFC President is Dana White.

History of Ultimate Fighting Championship dates back to 1993, when first UFC competition was held in Denver, Colorado. Background for this competition was set when Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu pioneer Rorion Gracie and Art Davie, a businessman, collaborated in 1991. Gracie was running a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu school at Torrance, California where Davie became his student. Gracie and his family were also known for organizing Vale Tudo matches in Brazil. Vale Tudo is supposed to be a preliminary form of modern mixed martial arts. Gracies were also featured in video game series Gracies in Action where Gracie Jiu-Jitsu action character was shown to compete with different martial arts masters of the world. Inspired by the game series, Davie came up with an idea to organize a tournament titled War of the Worlds where fighters from different disciplines of martial arts come to fight with each other to show which form is the most effective. After overcoming different sponsorship difficulties and other problems in 1993 finally first Ultimate Fighting Championship competition was held, produced by Semaphone Entertainment Group. First championship featured many forms of martial arts including kickboxing, savate fighting, karate, shootfighting, boxing and sumo wrestling, while Jiu-Jitsu was performed by Rorion Gracie’s brother and Black belt Royce Gracie. The championship was a huge commercial success, and its pay-per-view subscription reached 86,592, encouraging the sponsors to continue with more of such competitions.. First competition was won by Royce Gracie, the Jiu-Jitsu fighter.

Initially, the game had some ill-defined rules, and there was no weight categorization. It was believed by the organizers that variation of weight, height and strength between the two fighters can be overcome by use of correct technique. The championship also used a tagline ‘There are no Rules!’ At that time, in 1990’s, UFC was considered a very violent game, and there was a prior warning for viewer discretion in all TV broadcasts. As the championship faced controversies, it was decided by the management that stricter rules should be implemented, and after Senator John McCain openly denounced the event calling it ‘Human Cockfighting’, it was decided that the game needs serious reforms. By UFC 12, many stricter rules were implemented and violent and unacceptable actions were banned by proper legislation. Further improvement to the game was brought by Unified Rules of Mixed Martial Arts by the year 2000, and resulted in the UFC 28 was the first sanctioned event to operate by these new Unified Rules.

The competition launched its reality TV series; The Ultimate Fighter on Spike TV, and became an instant success. The final competition for the series, a match between Stephen Bonnar and Forest Griffin did a wonderful business, and is said to ‘save the UFC’ by its President Dana White. In the later years, the competition climbed up popularity graph further, and with continued efforts of the management, objectionable features of the event were removed, making it further popular.

The upcoming event for UFC, the UFC 126 features Anderson Silva, the mixed martial arts and Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu fighter from Brazil coming in competition with Vitor Belfort, mixed martial arts fighter who is also from Brazil. Silva is currently the champion with longest consecutive championship wins, with 13 titles. He is a blackbelt in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu and is considered the best in Middleweight championships.
