Zendaya is a singer, dancer and actress who rose to prominence with the Disney comedy show, "Shake it Up", in 2009. She lived up to her role of Rocky Blue from the series and became a platinum-selling star in real life as well. Zendaya started performing at a young age. Her first public exposure came as part of the dance group Future Shock Oakland at the California Shakespeare Theater. She continued to perform as a member of the group for three years and then for two more years as part of Academy of Hawaiian arts where she learnt hula and hip-hop dances.
Her professional career began when she took up modeling work for Macy's and Old Navy. Zendaya also appeared on the Kidz Bop's cover video of Katy Perry's Hot n Cold. Her acting career began with the Disney series in 2009, which gave her a breakthrough in the entertainment industry. In July 2013, Zendaya released her debut single, Replay, which charted on number forty on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. After selling more than a million copies in the US alone, it was certified platinum. As of today, the single has more than forty-four million views on VEVO.
Her self-titled debut album followed in September and reached number fifty-one on the Billboard 200. She soon followed up this release with her 'Swag it Out' tour. It was a mini-tour within the US but it became a major success with critics and audiences alike.
In a few years time since her advent in the entertainment industry, Zendaya has become an internationally renowned singer and actress.
