The current lineup of the Zac Brown Band comprises lead vocalist and guitarist Zac Brown; fiddler and vocalist Jimmy De Martini; bassist, guitarist and vocalist John Driskell Hopkins; guitarist and organist Coy Bowles; drummer Chris Fryar; and guitarist, organist and vocalist Clay Cook. Zac Brown is the founder of the band who was born and raised in Dahlonega, Georgia. Brown began playing guitar at a very young age but joined his father who owned a restaurant, Zac's Place, in the Lake Oconee area of Georgia. Since music was in Zac's nature so he opted for that field.
Zac Brown started his music career as a solo artist. After deciding to form a band, Zac hired John Hopkins as a bassist and Jimmy De Martini as a fiddler. The trio came up with their debut album entitled Far from Einstyne in 2004. The album received a critical acclaim. The group issued its second album, Home Grown, the subsequent year. But, it wasn't until 2008 when did the band sign an agreement with Live Nation Records. The agreement turned out to be a short-lived though. The Record-Label issued the Zac Brown Band's single, Chicken Fried. Chicken Fried was originally a score from the Home Grown album. It was, later, re-recorded and released on Live Nation Records in 2008.
In October 2008, Zac Brown Band released their next album, Chicken Fried on Atlantic Records. The album Chicken Fried peaked at # 1 on the country charts and hence propelled the band to stardom. Zac Brown Band became the first country band to occupy Number One position on the music charts. In January 2009, the band was joined by Clay Cook as a multi-instrumentalist. Zac Brown and his band took no time to release a second single, Whatever It Is. The song managed to enter Top 5 on the country charts. It was followed by the release of Toes which became the second single to reach # 1 on the country music charts.
Aside giving a hit after a hit, Zac Brown Band doesn't lag behind in live performances either. They have recently been joined by Coy Bowles on guitar and organ and Chris Fryar on drums. This new addition has added more to the ability of the Zac Brown Band to dazzle the audiences.
