The Chinese pianist Yuja Wang is widely recognized as an artist that combines fearless imagination and spontaneity of youth with the precision and discipline of a mature artist. 22 years of age, her command of the piano has been described as ‘superhuman’ and ‘astounding’. Yuja Wang comes from a musically gifted family with her mother being a dancer and her father being a percussionist. After completing her musical studies, she started taking part in competitions and her first accomplishment was winning a third prize in Ettlingen International Competition for Young Pianists. Wang’s debut album released in 2009 and was appreciated for being a combination of blazing technique and rare instinct of poetry. Along with this, she was also recognized with Classic FM Gramophone Award in the category of ‘Young Artist of the Year’. The second record of the artist, ‘Transformation’ won her another award in the category of ‘Young Artist of the Year’ and set a trend for getting acknowledged for every new release. Today, the artist’s profile of work is highlighted with a number of awards including the Avery Fisher Career Grant Recipient, Grammy Award Nomination, Best Classical Instrumental Solo and Echo Klassik Young Artist of the Year.
