Foster the People was founded by Mark Foster after struggling for many years in the music industry. The biggest breakthrough of the band came with the single, "Pumped Up Kicks" that garnered immense acclaim from the fans and critics alike. The track was even used by the Nylon Magazine for an online advertising campaign, and thereby went viral all across the world. The band's live performance at the South by Southwest Music Festival in March 2010 also earned it a lot of popularity at early stages.
Foster the People embarked on several tours in 2010, including performances at the "Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival" as well as "The Echo" nightclub in Los Angeles. The group released its first EP in 2011, which included singles like, "Houdini" and "Helena Beat", which gathered a lot of media attention. Their songs were featured in hit TV shows such as, "Gossip Girl", "The Vampire Diaries", "Friends with Benefits" and "Entourage".
Foster the People also made an appearance at the "Saturday Night Live" show in 2011, and at the end of the same year, they were nominated for two Grammy Awards for the "Best Pop Duo/Group Performance" and the "Best Alternative Music Album", for their debut album Torches. The band even performed at the Grammy Awards event along with Maroon 5 and The Beach Boys.
Foster the People toured throughout 2012 to promote their album Torches, and concluded the tour in Las Vegas in July, after performing 295 shows. The band entertained their fans with one rocking performance after the other, including an appearance at the "Firefly Music Festival" in June 2013, where they sang new singles, "Coming of Age", "Nevermind", Level Up" and "Fire Escape". Their sophomore album, Supermodel hit the shelves in March 2014. The first single from the album, "Coming of Age" was released on January 14, 2014, and gained immense critical acclaim.
Recently, Foster the People have been in limelight for its time-lapse video for new London Supermodel Mural. Not only this, the band members interacted with their UK fans through their live interview on "BBC One's 230 Breakfast Show" on March 25th. Their fans in France also got the chance of seeing the band perform their single, "Love" at the Le Grand Journal. With their second album, Foster the People have come up with several new catchy numbers. The opener, "Are You What You Want To Be" and other singles like, "Ask Yourself" and "Nevermind" have hit the airways. What's special about this album is that each single introduces something new; the single, "Pseudologia Fantastica", one of the highlights of the album, provides a shimmering and droning mix of guitarscapes, while "The Angelic Welcome of Mr. Jones" provides a sweet and short harmony for the fans.
Not only this, the single "Best Friend" provides the audience a mix of 70s' disco-funk and dance floor beats, which are hard to get out of mind. The band has now embarked on a tour to promote this critically acclaimed album.
