Details of Tori Amos and the Ticket Luck value
Tori Amos is an American singer-songwriter and a pianist. She was born on August 22, 1963, in Newton, North Carolina. She started playing piano since a very early age and by the time she was 5, she had started composing little pieces of music on her own. In 1977, Amos won a county teen talent contest, which brought her to the local notice, by singing the song More Than Just a Friend. At the age of 21, Amos left playing piano at a bar and moved permanently to Los Angeles, where she dreamed of following her musical career. She is known to be the most prominent woman singer-songwriter of the early 1990's and is also one of the few early alternative rock singers to have used piano as their primary instrument.
In 1996, she was also chosen as one of People's Magazine's top 50 most beautiful people. Amos formed a musical band along with Steve Caton, Matt Sorum, Brad Cobb and Jim Tauber. The band was named Y Kant Tori Read in the remembrance of Amos' days at Peabody Conservatory, where her scholarship was taken away because she couldn't play what was written on the sheets. Although the first album was a commercial failure and the band subsequently broke up, it didn't lower Amos' spirits of pursuing her dreams.
Tori Amos' solo career began with the remaking of the album she had made with the band. Under the professional guidance of Steve Caton, Doug Morris, Eric Rosse, Carlo Nuccio and Will MacGregor, the album was remade and named Little Earthquakes. In 1993, Amos traveled to New Mexico with her partner Eric Rosse, to write and record her second solo album Under the Pink. Her second album was a success and sold sufficient copies to make it to #12 at the Billboard 200, pretty much a higher rank than her previous album which had made it to #54.
Her third album was released in January 1996, naming Boys for Pele. It was recorded in Delgany, County Wicklow, at an Irish Church. Amos added darker tones and harpsichord, clavichord and harmonium to her keyboard. She also added church bells and gospel choir to the songs. Despite the fact that the album remained away from the mainstream due to its unpredictable and inconsistent lyrics, Boys for Pele is among Amos' most successful works, leading her to #2 at UK Top 40 and Billboard 200. Her later albums, From the Choirgirl Hotel (1998) and To Venus and Back (1999) were a totally different perspective and style than her previous works. The inspiration came from her marriage and miscarriage. Tori kept her artistic originality alive by giving music her very best, involving her career in her personal life and sharing her own experiences and heart with the fans. These albums did not contain much of her previously used acoustic piano based sounds; they were highly replaced by dance music and electronica; sonic landscapes and vocal washes. Strange Little Girls was released in 2001. The album was inspired by Amos' own motherhood. In 2002, described as the sonic novel, Scarlet's Walk was released. To date, Scarlet's Walk is Amos' only album to make it to the certified gold status.
Tori Amos' albums The Beekeepers (2005) and American Doll Posse (2007) received a whole lot of mix reviews. They were also claimed to have suffered from being a bit too long. The original idea behind The Beekeepers was the ancient art of beekeeping which inspires Amos' greatly as being a beautiful source of empowerment for the women. In 2009 Amos' released her albums Abnormally Attracted to Sin and Midwinter Grace (her first seasonal album). Since 2005, Amos' has sold 12 million albums internationally. She has been nominated for Grammy Awards 10 times. She was named as one of the top live acts of all times by Rolling Stone poll in 2003; she was placed at #5. Tori Amos is the co-founder of RAINN (The Rape, Abuse and Incest National Network) which was formed in June 1994. The organization has made it to Americas 100 Best Charities by Worth and among the Top 10 Best Charities By Marie Claire.
