Tommy Emmanuel belongs to Muswellbrook, New South Wales, Australia. He was born in 1955. While he was just four years old he got his first guitar. He often comments that while he was seven years old, he heard acclaimed guitarist Chet Atkins on local radio and immediately decided to follow his footsteps. While he was still a kid, his father sold the house and started to travel across Australia Tommy and his brother performing music as a family band. During his childhood Emmanuel didn’t attend school as he was mostly touring from one city to the other. In 1966 on insistence of the local government authorities, Tommy and his brother started going to school and the family finally settled in Parkes. While he was hardly in his early teens Tommy was already busy making jingles, working as a session musician on different albums and apart from this he also worked as a drummer for his brother’s band Goldrush.

In the late 70’s mre fame came to Emmanuel as he started to play as a lead guitarist in a known band called The Southern Star Band. He was also the backing vocalist for popular Australian singer Doug Parkinson. In the 80’s he also got a chance to extensively perform and tour with the immensely popular progressive rock and rock band of the 70’s called Dragon. Tommy Emmanuel has also performed and recorded with his all time favorite guitarist Chet Atkins. In 1997 both Atkins and Emmanuel teamed up to record a music album that was named The Day Finger Pickers Took over the World.
