Virginia Waring International Piano Competition is a non-profit organization founded in 1978. The organization aims to nurture the young talent and holds major international piano competitions every year. It brings classical piano music to Palm Springs Desert Communities, Indian Wells, Rancho Mirage and Palm Desert. The organization enriches the cultural landscape of the Palm Desert with piano concerts, recitals, master classes and outreach programs.
Started off as a college symposium for piano known as Joana Hodges, Virginia Waring International Piano Competition is today known for its artistic excellence and stature. To promote and encourage the musical culture, this organization holds piano competitions twice a year, in addition to organizing educational outreach programs. These competitions allow the young to recognize their piano playing talent and provide them an opportunity to perform nationally as well as internationally.
The three artists who would be making it to the stage in Three Steinways Six Hands are all Virginia Waring International Piano Competition winners, including award-winning, Stanislav Khristenko, Tristan Teo and Yunkyung Yoon. Khristenko is a Ukrainian pianist who had his first solo recital at the age of eleven. He is also a winner of some of the most renowned international piano competitions including the Cleveland International Piano Competition, Maria Canals International Music Competition, Emil Gilels Award and Russian Performance Art Foundation Award.
Accompanying him would be Yunkyung Yoon who won the 2013 Concerto and sixteen year old Canadian piano maestro Tristan Teo who started taking piano lessons at the age of three. Teo made his orchestral debut at the age of ten and since then has played with numerous orchestras including Waring Festival Orchestra, Vancouver Symphony Orchestra and Gulf Coast Symphony.
