Hailed from Leigh, Greater Manchester, The Ting Tings are an English pop duo who broke into mainstream in 2004. The duo, formed by vocalist/guitarist/drummer Jules De Martino and guitarist/bassist/vocalist Katie White, started off their music career with a Riot Grrrl trio Total Knock Out, TKO.

Over a period of 5 years, the Ting Tings have garnered a satisfied fan-base and gathered critical acclaim. They have issued four hit songs and an album titled We Started Nothing on their current records label, Columbia Records, UK.

At the tender age of 17, Jules De Martino joined indie band Babakoto and recorded a single called Just To Get By in 1994. When Babakoto split up, De Martino joined Mojo Pin and issued two singles: You and My Imagination in 1995 and 1996 respectively.

Martinos counterpart, Katie White was raised in Leigh, Greater Manchester and met Martino whilst she was at Leeds University. The pair went on to form the Portishead-influenced group with Dear Eskiimo. The trio signed up with Mercury Records. But, later due to the management style of the label and creative differences, the band split.

This earlier experience led De Martino and White to form the Ting Tings. The duo started out performing in private parties in Salford and signed with the label Switchflicker. Later, the year 2007 saw the Ting Tings band signing for Columbia Records. They also embarked on an October 2007 tour and performed at various universities in the UK with the Makers and Reverend.

Having toured top universities in UK, the Ting Tings gave a notable performance at Glastonbury Festival, increasing their overall acclaim. The duo also appeared with Jools Holland and stunned music-lovers with their striking performance.

Columbus Records released the duos first single, Great DJ. The single proved to be such a hit that it received considerable airplay on Xfm and BBC Radio 1 in the UK. In January 2008, the Ting Tings were voted third in the annual BBC 6 Music poll for acts to emerge in the following year.

Following month saw The Tine Tings appearing as an opening slot act on the 2008 Shockwaves NME Awards Tour. The duo played Joe Lean And The Jing Jang Jong, The Cribs, and Does It Offend You, Yeah?. Their single Shut Up and Let Me Go came out in April 2008 and peaked at number 55 on Billboard charts.

In May 2008, the Ting Tings came up with their debut album titled We Started Nothing and credited BBC Introducing for providing them with their 'life changing' break. The album spawned a hit single, That's Not My Name that peaked at number 1 in the UK Singles Charts.

On Columbus Records, the Ting Tings released their first single, That's Not My Name/Great DJ, to critical acclaim. Together with the duos second single, Fruit Machine, both songs stayed on heavy rotation in British radio for some time.

In order to promote their album, the ting Tings gave a long-remembered performance at the iTunes Live London Festival in the KOKO nightclub.

Both White and Martino are considered among exclusive acts who know the art of playing small interludes that consist of remixes of past hits. They showed off this talent during the 2008 MTV Video Music Awards.

In January 2009, Columbia Records released the Ting Tings hit single, That's Not My Name in US to positive reviews. The Ting Tings are currently touring in The United States, receiving critical acclaim and increasing fan-base.
