The Straits is perhaps the best live group providing fans with the best ever live music concert. This British rock band formed in 1977 by brothers David Knopfler and Mark Knopfler along with Pick Withers and John Illsley is one of the most remembered bands today. The sound of Dire Straits drew from a range of music influences such as folk, blues and jazz. In spite of punk rock prominence during the early years of the band, the stripped-down sound of Dire Straits contrasted with punk, showcasing a more pub rock influence. Many of the compositions of the group were melancholic. In the entire stellar career of the group, Dire Straits came up with six albums, self-entitled being the debut. The first and few of the following records did not do well on the charts until the band released "Love Over Gold" in 1982, containing lengthy songs with experimental passages. It also included the keyboard and piano work of Alan Clark. The record was well received and went gold in the United States. Besides, the albums also spent four weeks on the UK Charts.

"Brothers in Arms" was released in 1985, selling more than thirty million units. With this effort, the ensemble also turned out to be one of the most commercially successful groups, with international albums sales of more than one hundred and twenty million. Songs from the record, "Money for Nothing" reached number one on the US Billboard Hot 100 and in the UK Singles Chart, climbed to number four.

That was the time when the group started becoming more and more prominent and famous, winning numerous awards such as four Grammys, two MTV, three Brits and several more. The most popular songs of the group include "Lady Writer", "Telegraph Road", "Tunnel of Love", "Private Investigations", "Walk of Life" and several others.
