Alan Clark, sometimes called as the unofficial music director of the Dire Straits joined the band as their first keyboardist in 1980. Clark had been the key person in the transformation of the band into one of the world's greatest musical acts. Since 'Love over Gold' got famous, Clark has been a part of every recording by the band. Alan has also worked with lots of other stars, including Bob Dylan, Bee Gees and Eric Clapton. Chris White on the other hand was the saxophone player for the Dire Straits. He is best known for his works on Brothers in Arms as well as world tours of On Every Street. He, like Clark, has also performed with several other huge names of music industry, such as Paul McCartney, Joe Cocker, Robbie Williams and Ray Charles. 'The Straits' is formed by these two musicians.
Clark and White picked up five exceptionally talented musicians and formed a new band. The new musicians selected were Terence Reis, Steve Ferrone, Mickey Feat, Jamie Squire and Adam Philips. Terrence Reis was in replacement of Mark Knopfler. Reis grew up in Maputo and learned the local street musicians' finger-picking style of playing guitar. This style, as he would discover later, was incredibly similar to Knopfler. Although Reis is an amazing guitarist, the talent that got him to become a part of The Straits is his mesmerizing voice.
Steve Ferrone is a truly impressive addition to the band. In January this year, he has been inducted into the Rock Hall of Fame, owing to his extraordinary drumming skills, and had his hands printed on Hollywood Blvd. Similarly, Michael Feat is another remarkable member of the splendid band. Internationally renowned as an outclass bassist; Feat is also a qualified psychotherapist. Having toured with several artists such as Art Garfunkel, Mark Knopfler and Van Morrison, Feat is known for his live performances.
Jamie Squrie is a multi-instrumentalist and plays keyboard, percussion and guitar with great adeptness. Incredibly gifted, Squire is the youngest member of the band. His charismatic persona coupled with his amazing vocal skills make him a significant member of the musical ensemble. Seventh member is the tasteful and thoughtful Adam Philips. Among the finest guitarists of the nation, Philips is another prominent addition to the band. He has recorded and performed with several huge contemporary stars, including Enrique Iglesias, Lionel Ritchie, James Morrison, and Rod Stewart.
These seven music experts are going to remake the Dire Straits' music and also compose new stuff along the same lines.
For the first time in twenty years, The Straits will be performing the best collection of Dire Straits' songs. The expected repertoire includes Walk of Life, Romeo and Juliet, Tunnel of Love, Telegraph Road, Two Young Lovers, Sultans of Swing, Money for Nothing and Brothers in Arms. Dire Strait's legacy still lives on, further glorified and expanded by The Straits. All those who have missed out on one of the most beloved rock bands of the eighties, now have a chance to relive those spectacular moments.
