All The Parker Quartet members hold graduate degrees in performance and chamber music. They started working as a band in 2002 and state musicians like Gyorgy Kurtag, the Cleveland Quartet, Rainer Schmidt and Kim Kashkashian as their mentors. The line-up of the ensemble include Jessica Bodner on viola, Daniel Chong as the violinist, Kee Hyun Kim on cello and Ying Xue on violin. Besides performing in clubs and bars around the country, The Parker Quartet became the first string-quartet in residence at Performance Space in New York and the Barbes Bar. The Parker Quartet has been mentioned in several well-known magazines and websites such as The Boston Globe, MusicalAmerica.com, Chamber Music Magazine and Time Out NY.
Their pioneering performances at different venues, have earned The Parker Quartet outstanding reviews from critics and fans alike. An overwhelmed critic from Gramaphone is reported to have said, “The Parker Quartet have the confidence to play freely with music and the instinct to bring it off.”
It wasn’t a surprise when Parker Quartet won a Grammy Award for “Best Chamber Music Performance” for The Ligeti recording. In addition, the ensemble has taken away several other titles and awards as well. They won the Grand Prix and Mozart Prize at the Bordeaux International String Quartet Competition in France. They also earned victory at the Concerts Artists Guild Competition and have been honored with the prestigious biennial Cleveland Quartet Award by Chamber Music America.
Some of their early concert tours in Europe became one of the reasons for their mainstream recognition. After a few years of live ventures, The Parker Quarter released a debut recording of Bartok’s String Quartets Nos. 2 and 5. Many critics loved the overall compositions, the spontaneous improvisation and the language they had tried to convey through music. Following its success, The Parker Quartet came up with their second recording of Gyorgy Ligeti’s String Quartets Nos. 1 and 2 and Andante & Allegretto. This one earned the ensemble a Grammy Award as well. Judith Sherman, a Grammy Award winning musician will be producing their upcoming project which is expected to be a selection of Haydn string quartets.

Some of the venues and events where they have performed live concertos include Stadthalle Marburg, Wigmore Hall, London, Concerts Classiques d’Epinal, Kultur im Oberau, the Carnegie Hall, UCLA and the San Francisco State University. In 2010, they became the first ever artists in residence with the Minnesota Public Radio. In the past years, other than live concerts, The Parker Quartet has also been teaching instrumental lessons at a number of universities.
