The Irish Tenors
A musical singing trio from Ireland, The Irish Tenors started off their music career in 1998. They broke to mainstream through a PBS special, The Irish Tenors.
The special was produced by Bill Hughes. Hughes, after seeing trios performance during a Cannes festival, came up with an idea.
He wanted to produce a television special and approached The Irish Tenors. The then line-up consisted of Jose Carreras, Luciano Pavarotti, and Placido Domingo. Hughes wanted to produce a television special and approached Canadian John McDermott to head up the group.
Bill Hughes conferred with Ireland's leading vocal coach, Dr Veronica Dunne, and invited Ronan Tynan and Anthony Kearns to join. In 1999, The Irish Tenors-in Dublin made their debut on PBS television in America.
Later that year, PBS signed up for another special by the increasingly popular new group. But, early in 2000, deal had to be diluted for McDermott's mother passed away and John parted his way from the group. Before filming the Irish Tenors Live in Belfast, Bill Hughes again contacted Finbar Wright and invited him to step in.
Finbar Wright agreed to join The Irish Tenors and was asked to stay on for forthcoming tours. Wright left Sony and joined the trio on a permanent basis. In 2001, the Irish Tenors came up with their third special which proved to be a historic PBS broadcast at New York's Ellis Island. The special was hosted by Irish/American actor Martin Sheen.
The rtios album called Ellis Island debuted as number 1 on Billboard's Heatseeke list. Ellis Island also landed on its Top 10 Best of 2001. Following the release of album, the Irish Tenors toured extensively while their fan-base grew notably.
The year 2006 saw Tynan leaving the group to begin a solo career and concentrate on it. He was substituted by Karl Scully who was approached by Wright and Kearns to join the trio. This replacement turned out to be exceptionally successful as The Irish Tenors broke into the new levels of success.
This successful blend of voices led Bill Hughes to produce a television 9 part series for Ireland's RTE. The series was titled The Irish Tenors & Friends. Friends who performed with The Irish Tenors were Paul Carrick, Lord Andrew Lloyd Webber, Finbar Furey, Shayne Ward, Hayley Westenra, Sharon Shannon, Rebecca Storm, Peter Grant, Lucia Evans, and Celine Byrne.
In 2007, the South Carolina Legislature issued a Proclamation and welcomed the Irish Tenors to that State for their performance in Charleston. The trio received critical acclaimed for their performance.
The Irish Tenors' current line-up consists of Finbar Wright, Karl Scully, and Anthony Kearns. Over a course of 10years, the trio released videos like Live in Dublin in 1999, Live in Belfast in 2000, Ellis Island in 2001, Heritage in 2004, and The Irish Tenors & Friends in 2006.
