The Datsuns
The Datsuns a rock band was formed in Cambridge, New Zealand. Datsuns music scenario began back in 1997, as the vocalist and bassist of the band Dolf de Borst formed a band known as Trinket along with Matt Osment as the drummer of the band and guitaring being done by Phil Buscke. Also in 1997, a second guitarist Christian Livingstone was added in Trinket. Two years later after struggling in the music industry the Trinket won the 89FM Battle of the Bands in 1999 which was followed by their first single Super Gyration!.
Their first single was released in 2000, exclusively on 7 inch vinyl, after the band was renamed from Trinket to the Datsuns in the same year. In 2002 The Datsuns got them selves signed with a record label called V2, after they were claimed to be the future of rock by British press, after they made number of appearances on UK's BBC radio. Soon they reached the heights of fame as they released their self titled debut album soon after they signed with V2.
Their debut album had a major impact in UK as well as Australia and their home country New Zealand. The Datsuns also got chance to hold the stage in 2003 at Ozzfest, when they performed with major rock icons including Marilyn Manson, Korn, Ozzy Osbourne and Disturbed. Following year they also performed as an opening act for Metallica, during their Australian Tour in 2004 and also in 2004 they held the main stage for Big Day Out Festival. Outta Sight, Outta Mind; was their second album that was produced by John Paul Jones of Led Zeppelin, however their debut was still consider better than their second album, as it didn't draw much attention of the music critics.
They released their third album Smoke & Mirrors in the year 2006, but like their second studio album it didn't made much success as well and music critics weren't attracted towards it much, hence later that year Ben Cole took the place of Datsuns drummer Matt Osment. Later that year, During the Christmas and New Year period, Datsuns went on a tour along with Shihad.
To help promote their third album Smoke & Mirrors, Datsuns went on a tour that they recently completed in Europe. This time they hit upon those venues and places that they had never visited before, still the tour went successful and the tickets sold out mostly, during their performances their.
As for now they are working in Europe on their fourth album that scheduled to come out in near future in 2008. However they released their first single from their untitled fourth album. The single is called High School Hoodlums that was released exclusively on Vinyl, and hit the number one spot on New Zealand's kiwiFM top ten.
