The Academy Is ?.. Is a name of the indie rock band of the Hoffman Estates, Illinois, and suburbs of Chicago? At first they used to name themselves as ?The Academy' but later added Is to avoid any controversy of mixed up names like the other bands there.
It was originated by the two members named Frontman William Beckett and the guitarist Michael Carden, both united after the split of their parent bands. They used to have lengthy discussions over music and the lyrics. At a later stage they came to realize that their natural instincts and perception about the different affairs of life was almost the same.
They used to write songs together and ultimately formed the band calledThe Academy' in the year 2002. After adding Adam Siska on bass, Adrian LaTrace Jr as a second guitarist and drummer Mike DelPrincipe, the full band headed into the studio and recorded their self-titled debut EP, The Academy (2004). At the recording place the famous Pete Williams from Fall Out Boy' listened to them and got really inspired. They were introduced to the famous producer Brian Zieska, who let their first EP to be sold to him.

Although there was no specific reason for that and at later it was declined by Tom that he had never quit the band, it all made fans to speculate different things about the fate of the band. Later it was confirmed as Michael Guy Chislett joined the band to replace Tom on Guitar.
While their Warped Tour in 2006, they began the process of writing songs for their second release. William Becket played the central role in the song writing.
