Tegan Rain Quin and Sara Kiersten Quin was born September 19, 1980, identical twins are Canadian singer-songwriters. Tegan and Sara were born in Calgary, Alberta. The duo initially played as PLUNK, and lacked a drummer or bass player. In 1997, the two used their school's recording studio to record two albums: Who's in Your Band? and Play Day. In 1998, they made an early breakthrough by winning Garage Warz Battle of the Bands, a local music competition in Calgary. Since then, the two have toured extensively with many artists, including

They were originally signed to Neil Young's Vapor Records in Canada, and to Sire in the U.S. as their previous label, Sanctuary Records, is no longer releasing new music in the U.S. They are currently signed with Warner Brothers' Records. Currently, Tegan lives in Vancouver and Sara lives in Montreal. When they were competing in Garage Warz, the duo was known as Sara and Tegan because when contacted at the last minute and asked for a name Tegan just said Well we're just Sara and Tegan and they were registered with their names in that order. Their first album, Under Feet Like Ours, was initially released under the name Sara and Tegan copies are now a sought-after commodity among their fans.

Both twins are similarly involved in vocals and playing instruments, the singing of the lead melody often goes to whichever twin wrote the particular song. Sara has been quoted saying that Tegan writes songs prolifically, eventually discarding most of them. Sara's songs, on the other hand, evolve slowly and methodically and almost always make it onto the record. Their fifth album, The Con, was released on July 24, 2007. The band is currently on tour promoting the album.

Their song Walking with a Ghost has received considerable TV airplay, including a 2006 NBC commercial for the TV series Medium and montage footage on the UK football entertainment show Soccer AM in May 2007.

Accomplishments:
Tegan and Sara have been profiled in a number of magazines and had their albums included on several notable best of lists. In the fall of 2003, they graced the cover of ROCKRGRL magazine issue #49, which focused on a tribute to duos. In late 2004, Rolling Stone magazine named their album So Jealous on their list of the best 50 albums of the year. Tegan and Sara were also nominated for a 2006 Juno Award for Alternative Album of the Year.
