Superstars of the 70s Soul Jam show presents the biggest names of soul, disco and R&B music from the seventies era featuring The Chi-Lites, The Stylistics, The Emotions, Peaches and Herb, The Blue Notes, and Main Ingredient alongside Cuba Gooding. The Emotions who are soon to perform at Superstars of the 70s Soul Jam concert, originally comprised of Lillian and Joseph Hutchinson’s daughters Jeannette, Theresa and Adrianne. When they were young they came to be called Hutchinson Sunbeams, and only changed their name to its present form in 1968, which was followed by the release of their debut album titled I Can Love You. The title track of the album was written by Sheila, and turned out to be a small hit along with the single Best Part of Love Affair. By 1969, the artists were invited to perform at an outdoor summer concert in Rochester, where they caught the attention of host Herb Hamlett, an influential soul DJ with WCMF FM. The latter brought the band many bookings in New York. Over the years, they have had an impact on quite a few acts such as Cheryl Lynn, Mariah Carey, LL Cool J, Big Daddy Kane and The Jones Girls. The group’s current lineup consists of Sheila, Wanda and Pamela Hutchinson, who all continue to sing while alongside making personal appearances.
The Stylists, formed in 1968, initially comprised of Russell Thompkins, James Smith, Airrion Love, James Dunn and Herb Murrell. Their hits in the US included ballads, featuring Thompkins’ soaring falsetto alongside Thom Bell’s lush productions that made the group to the forefront of the seventies’ R&B scene. The band has been quite active till recent years, even after the departure of key members, releasing a new album That Same Way in 2008. Their earlier hit albums include The Stylistics, Rockin’ Roll Baby, Round 2, Heavy, Thank You Baby, You Are Beautiful, In Fashion, and Closer Than Close, among others. Their current lineup includes Airrion Love, Herbie Murrell, Jason Sharpe and Harold Eban Brown, all of whom will be performing at Superstars of the 70S Soul Jam.
The Chi-Lites, comprising of Marshall Thompson, Frank Reed, Fred Simon, and Tara Henderson, were welcomed into Hall of Fame of Vocal Groups in 2005. Their best-known singles include I’m So Jealous, Never No More, Pretty Girl, Give It Away, To Change My Love, We Are Neighbors, Oh Girl, Have You Seen Her and A Lonely Man.
