The most awaited comedy festival of the year, SF Sketchfest, is almost here and fans can now get the SF Sketchfest Tribute tickets. Since the first tribute show in 2002, SF Sketchfest has grown to be the biggest San Franciscan comedy fest that happens every year in January and February to showcase the local and national talent. In 2014, SF Sketchfest will be kicking off its 13th Annual Sketchfest celebrations on 23rd January which will last till 9th February. The festival will include over 200 shows which will take place at around twenty different Bay Area Venues.
With the aim to showcase the talents of Bay Area Comedy groups, SF Sketchfest was founded in 2001 by David Owen, Cole Stratton and Janet Varney who, along with Gabriel Diani, established the San Franciscan sketch-comedy group, Totally False People. Debuting in January 2001 at the Shelton Theatre in downtown San Francisco, SF Sketchfest has rapidly become a nationally recognized comedy festival. Featuring everything from sketch comedy to stand-up comedy, this festival is a great place to have a good dose of laugh and enjoy all of their famous tribute shows.
Within thirteen years of being around, the SF Sketchfest has become a highly anticipated comedy festival. Its artistic showcase of local favorites, national headliners and well known comedy groups from all over North America has made it a favorite with critics, audiences and performers alike. The festival comprises of sketch comedy, alternative comedy, improv comedy, tributes to films and television shows, podcasts and solo performances. With its top quality tributes, panel discussions and comedic performances for which it is famous for, the festival has received overwhelming response from audiences who are particularly in love with the diverse programming of SF Sketchfest.
The festival has got an edge over all the other comedy festivals in that it has featured performers from almost every major comedy show of the past 25 years. The North American television shows featured in SF Sketchfest include The Daily Show, Saturday Night Live, Mr. Show and Strangers With Candy to name a few. In its first year, SF Sketchfest took up the task of presenting the six talented comedy groups of Bay Area which included Kasper Hauser, The Fresh Robots, Please Leave the Bronx, The Meehan Brothers, Totally False People and White Noise Radio Theater.
Gaining success right with its first event which took place at the eighty seated Shelton Theatre, SF Sketchfest gathered positive response from all over which gave it an impetus to become a yearly phenomenon that it is now. In 2003, the second annual SF Sketchfest took place at a bigger scale at the 200 seated Eureka Theatre and featured Fred Willard along with his Hollywood Players, The Sklar Brothers, Don't Be A Dick and Upright Citizens Brigade.
From 2004, the festival started its yearly tribute shows and the first person to be given a tribute by SF Sketchfest was Amy Sedaris. Featuring a night of comedy and music including the performances by The Naked Trucker, Totally Looped and T-Bones Show, this was an even bigger festival as compared to the one held last year. Cobb's Comedy Club with its 400 seats was decided to be the venue to accommodate the audiences which were getting more with every passing year. So far the festival has paid tribute to some of the most notable personalities of the comedy world including Dana Carvey in 2005, David Cross and Bob Odenkrik in 2006, Paul Reubens in 2007, The Kids in the Hall in 2008, The State in 2009, Conan O' Brien in 2010, David Zucher, Jim Abrahams and Jerry Zucher in 2011and Eddie Izzard in 2012.
