Seth Avett's music is deeply rooted in bluegrass and traditional folk. However, the brothers - Seth and Scott were also inspired by the rock genre, which is where they first cut their teeth as musicians. Traces of rock n roll are evident in their music compositions. The two have been making music as children and later they became part of a rock band Nemo. They performed regularly with the band and with every gig gained more confidence. Although they found success with Nemo, the brothers had different ideas on the kind of music they wanted to make. They started hanging out with like-minded musicians, playing for passersby and simply having a great time with their music.
They called their impromptu jam sessions and acoustic music style "the Back Door Project", but later changed their name to The Avett Brothers. They added singer and bassist Bob Crawford to their combo and the trio started playing live shows. They came up with an album in 2002 titled "Country Was" and following its release embarked on a tour. It allowed them to produce music for their next album "A Carolina Jubilee" that hit the shelves a year later. The brothers kept the momentum going and continued to release one album after the other. Alongside, Seth Avett was also working on his solo songs and composed music under the moniker Timothy Seth Avett as Darling.
As a solo musician, Seth Avett produced three albums. "To Make the World Quiet", "Killing the Headlamps" and "The Mourning, the Silver, The Bell" were received well by the fans and critics. His latest venture is with Jessica Lea Mayfield and their tribute record "Seth Avett & Jessica Lea Mayfield Sing Elliott Smith" is expected to release in March 2015. The album pays homage to the phenomenal musician and singer/songwriter Elliot Smith and reflects the duo's shared admiration for him. Smith enjoyed a decade plus career that was full of success and he was able to garner an intense cult following. His Beatles-influenced pop beats and aching ballads have earned him a permanent place in the music industry. Elliot Smith passed away in 2003 in a tragic death.
Jessica Lea Mayfield has a long history with The Avett Brothers and has opened numerous concerts for them. With Seth Avett tickets, enjoy the pair's soft harmonies and gentle guitar playing.
