Scotty Mccreery is an American country music singer from Garner, North Carolina. He is a singer and a musician who plays the piano and the guitar. He has been an active part of the world of country music since his debut in 2011 and has released songs as well as an album through Interscope and Mercury Nashville. He rose to fame when he won the American Idol’s tenth season in 2011; this was followed by his releasing the album Clear as Day which was soon certified platinum in the US. Scotty Mccreery was born to a real estate mother and a systems analyst father and went on to study at the Timber Drive Elementary School followed by middle school at the West Lake Middle School. It was here that he gained a passion for singing, performing first at his graduation. He then studied at the Garner Magnet High School where he was a member of the group Die Meistersingers which performs all over the US even today. It was this that led to the start of his career as a singing tenor. During the Clayton Harvest Festival, he performed live and won the Clayton Idol contest. He also became one of the finalists of the North Carolina teenage vocalist contest, Rip the Hallways.
Scotty Mccreery was a participant of the Caswell Youth Retreat in 2009 and took part in the talent show, performing the Josh Turner song, Long Black train. When the American Idol auditions came to Milwaukee, he auditioned and was selected. He then went on to take part in the contest, and was a member of the Guaps in the Hollywood group round. He then became one of the five male American Idol contestants to make it to the top thirteen and during the Finale, which he won, he performed Gone by Montgomery Gentry which became the Favorite Performance and George Strait’s Check Yes or No which became George Strait’s Choice. His Coronation Song was one of his own songs, I Love You This Big, which would go on to rank at the top of the Billboard charts.
Soon after winning the tenth American Idol, Scotty Mccreery released his first single, I Love You This Big, which ranked high on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart, the highest for a debut since 1990. The song went on to sell over one hundred and seventy thousand copies in its first week of release and was soon certified gold. He also released a music video for the song and was signed onto Mercury Records Nashville, earning more than two hundred fifty thousand dollars in advance for his first album. During the 2011 CMT Music Awards, he was invited alongside fellow American Idol contestant Lauren Alaina to perform live on the Grand Ole Opry. This performance and the trip was also part of an ABC Special in which he sang a Josh Turner song. In 2011, he also toured as part of the American Idols LIVE! Tour 2011, performing first in West Valley City, Utah and then ending with a concert in the capital city of the Philippines, Manila.
In 2011, Scotty Mccreery sang the US National Anthem during the first game between the Texas Rangers and the St. Louis Cardinals as part of the World Series game taking place in St. Louis, Missouri’s Busch Stadium. The same year, he also performed at the CMA Radio Stations of the Year and was the ceremony’s announcer.
