Born on 6^th September, 1943, Roger Waters went to the Cambridgeshire High School for Boys. There he met Roger Barrett (Syd) and David Gilmour, who lived close to his school. Roger started his music career in 1963 when he began to play in a group which belonged to Clive Metcalfe and Keith Noble. Nick Mason was a friend of Roger’s and he joined the band too. They primarily played at private music functions and on a very small scale. The band had a change of members in 1963 because Noble and Metcalfe left to form their own band and were subsequently replaced by Bob Klose and Barrett. The group started to play as Abdabs in 1964 which was then eventually evolved into Pink Floyd in 1996.
 
Barrett was the vocalist, songwriter and guitarist for Pink Floyd. He played a part in writing almost all the songs of the bands debut LP “The Piper at the Gates of Dawn” which was released in 1967. Roger Waters made his debut as a songwriter with the track “Take Up Thy Stethoscope and Walk” from that album. Barrett left the band due to his illness and in 1968, David Gilmour replaced him. Roger became the band’s creative brain and started taking on multiple roles like songwriting, being a vocalist and lyricist. He wrote the lyrics for the first five Pink Floyd albums after the departure of Barrett between 1973 and 1983. The first of those albums was “The Dark Side of the Moon” which is still regarded as one of the most successful rock albums ever, selling over forty million copies and topping various charts. Another album “The Wall” which was released in 1982 was inspired by Waters own life and is again one of the most successful rock albums of all time selling over twenty three million copies and is rated as one of the top three selling albums of all time.
 
Roger Waters left the band due to some differences to start his career as a solo performer. He released his first solo album “The Pros and Cons of Hitch Hiking” in 1984. It was a concept album about failed marriage which is certified as Gold by the RIAA. He followed it up by doing a soundtrack for “When the Wind Blows”, an animated movie in 1986. Roger Waters released his second concept album “Radio K.A.O.S.” in 1987. The album was a story of a mute man called “Billy” who first communicated with a DJ and then learns how to control the world’s computers to trigger a nuclear attack.
 
November 1989, was when the Berlin Wall fell and the very next year Roger Waters created history by staging one of the largest concerts ever. The concert was called “The Wall-Live in Berlin” and was attended by a staggering crowd of over two hundred thousand people. Roger did the concert to raise funds for a charity and it turned out to be an epic. He released a double album of the concert itself which turned out to be as big a hit as the concert itself and received Platinum certification. He released his third concept album “Amused to Death” two years after the concert and called it a Stunning piece of work. The fans and the critics agreed to that and compared it to his legendary work with Pink Floyd.
 
Roger Waters then went on a break from the industry for almost seven years which ended when he returned to perform on a tour and mesmerized his fans with his solo and Pink Floyd songs. He also teamed up with Gilmour, Wright and Mason for one night only to perform at the Hyde Park in London in 2005.
