Formed in the year 1986, Prong is a trio collective band that creates music which particularly falls in the genre of heavy metal music. Metal music is a major part of rock music that came into formation in the early 1970s. Such a music type consists of heavy and thick use of guitar distortions, ecstatic beats and extended solos. All in all, the genre depicts loudness. Founded in the famous city of New York, the band originally released two independent recordings which were able to gather much fame and popularity. These two albums were named “Force Fed” and “Primitive Origins” and caused Epic Records to approach the band in the year 1989. They were able to sign a contract with the infamous Epic Records within three years of their formation.
The band was able to release a total of four studio albums through these records. These albums were “Beg to Differ” released in the year 1990, “Prove you wrong” released in the year 1991, “Cleansing” released in the year 1994 and the final album “Rude Awakening” released in the year 1996, after which the group disbanded in the year 1997. Prong then decided to get together in the year 2002 after which they released four other studio albums till the present year, 2012 that were “100% Live” released in the year 2002, “Scorpio Rising” released in 2003, “Power of the Damager” released in 2007 and finally “Carved into Stone” released in 2012. Though the ensemble has had several temporary members, their more permanent members include Tommy Victor, the forming band member and lead vocalist ever since the band’s formation. Other two members include Tony Campos and Alexei Rodriguez who contribute their skills on bass guitar and drums respectively. Prong was created by two individuals, Tommy Victor as mentioned above and Mike Kirkland. These two individuals worked at the Country Blue Grass and Blues music club and decided to create their own group where Tommy played the lead guitar and provided with the vocals while Mike became the bassist. They were soon joined by Ted Parsons; ex-drummer of a punk rock band named Swans. The trio went on to produce two independent releases that were able to get them a major label signing.
In the year 1990, Mike quit from the band and Troy Gregory was taken aboard as the bassist for the band. However, four years later, Troy was dismissed and John Bechdel and Paul Raven became the bassists. These two individuals were from punk rock bands called Killing Joke and Murder Inc. The band with this new lineup released their fifth album which was able to become a worldwide hit. Songs like “Snap your fingers, Snap your neck” and “Broken Peace” are thought to be classics. Prong, after the success of this album went on a tour with legendary bands such as Pantera and Sepultura. In the year 1996, Prong was dismissed by the Epic Records due to decreased sales with time and they decided to disband after the end of an ongoing tour. After the band’s demise, the founder Tommy went on to join Danzing; a heavy metal band where he became the lead guitarist and Ted and Paul decided to join Godflesh; also a heavy metal band. In the year 1997, Tommy decided to reform Prong as a band and called upon Dan Laudo, Monte Pittman (Madonna’s guitarist) and Jake E. Lee (Ozzy Osbourne’s guitarist). Together with this collective, the band released a live album named “100% Live” released through Locomotive Music Record. However it wasn’t until the year 2007 that the band reformed officially and signed with the 13th Planet Records Company through which they were able to release “Power of the Damager” in the same year.
