Procol Harum is a rock band which hails from the borough of Richmond in London. The band was formed back in the year 1967. At the time of its formation, the band comprised of five band members. The list included lead singer and songwriter Gary Brooker, Keith Reid; the man responsible for writing nearly every single song by the band that was not a cover version of other songs, Matthew Fisher who played the Hammond Organ for the band, Ray Royer who was the band's lead guitarist and last, but surely not the least, the band comprised of David Knights who was the band's bass guitarist. The band was managed by Guy Stevens who is also responsible for giving the band its iconic name. They teamed up with session drummer Bill Eyden and his team at Olympic Studios to record their first song as a band.
After working with each other, the band came up with the song A Whiter Shade of Pale. The song was released in the month of May in 1967 and it went on to make headlines throughout different parts of the world. The song went on to chart at the number one spot on the United Kingdom Singles Charts as well as song charts in Australia. It also reached the top spot on the famous RPM Magazine Chart in Canada and went as high as number five on the Top Singles Charts in the United States. The song is still regarded as one of the most successful and famous songs by this legendary rock band. Procol Harum's first live performance came back in the year 1967 when they opened for a Jimi Hendrix concert and there has been no stopping them ever since.
Procol Harum has been known throughout their history for producing some truly amazing rock songs. They have been a source of influence for many of today's iconic rock bands and their contribution to the world of rock music will never be forgotten. The band also got a nomination which put them in contention for being inducted into the prestigious Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in the month of October in 2012. They did not, however, win on this occasion but considering their history, it will not be long before another nomination comes for them because there is no place they would rather be then in the books of Rock and Roll's Hall of Fame.
