Poison
Poison is a popular American rock band. The band earned great popularity and successes in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The band has record sales of over 25 million copies to date worldwide.

Music
The rock musicians from Mechanicsburg, Pennsylvania formed the group. The hunger of fame led the Poison move to Los Angeles, California. The band's roots, and those of glam metal in general, lay in America's east, and in particular, the sounds and images associated with the New York Dolls, KISS, Boston, Aerosmith, and Cheap Trick.

These influences were transplanted to California in the late 1970s, mutated following the release of Van Halen's debut in 1978. It was ultimately ignited into a colourful music scene on L.A.'s Sunset Strip in the 1980s. A Southern rock and blues influence is also exhibited in the band's later work.

Straightforward melodies and catchy guitar riffs are the main characteristics of Poison's music. The band's tunes would not win the hearts of the people. Also their garish costumes, overblown hair, feminizing make-up, and frenetic stageshow, all delivered via the metal-heavy MTV of the mid to late 1980s could not have major impact. Many consider Poison as the epitome of the Sunset Strip glam metal scene. For their fans, this meant a straightforward celebration of hedonism; for their critics, it meant music which was uninspired and unimportant.

Look What The Cat Dragged In
Poison began in 1984 under the name Paris. The band consisted of vocalist Bret Michaels, bassist Bobby Dall, guitarist Matt Smith and drummer Rikki Rockett. They started playing the club circuit afer moving to Los Angeles in 1985. The band picked the name Poison after a T-shirt worn by drummer Mick Shrimpton in This is Spinal Tap, as the band knew that they fit the stereotypes of rock stars in the movie.

The band's theatrical live shows and striking glam image earned notoriety for the band. They would fill the stage with old Harleys and car parts, blow up car fuses and pour confetti onto themselves from boxes in the ceiling as they were facing shortage of money.During this period, Poison's manager was successful in negotiating a deal under which West Hollywood club The Troubadour would pay for shows by covering the band's monthly rent and recreation bill. Ultimately, the shows drew sufficient crowds to enable the band to make a profit from them.

Look What the Cat Dragged In (1986)
In 1986, An independent label Enigma Records signed Michaels, Dall, Rockett and DeVille. They released their debut album, Look What the Cat Dragged In on August 2, 1986. It included one single, Cry Tough, that never charted followed by three hits, Talk Dirty to Me, I Want Action, and I Won't Forget You. There was record sale of 2 million copies of the album. A cover of the KISS song Rock And Roll All Nite for Less Than Zero's soundtrack was recorded by the band in 1987.

20 Years of Rock
With a 20 Years Of Rock tour in the summer of 2006, Poison celebrated its 20th anniversary. The tour quickly became one of the most successful tours of 2006 in the U.S. There was an average of about 20,000 people per night. An anniversary best-of album The Best Of Poison: 20 Years Of Rock was also released by the band in April 2006. A new track, a cover of Grand Funk's We're An American Band, is also featured in the record. Don Was was the producer of this record. This marked Poison's return to the Billboard top 20 charts for the first time since 1993. The compilation debuted at #17 with a first week sales total of 39,721.

Your Mama Don't Dance also gained great popularity. This song was played in the movie RV in 2006.In honor of Poison's 20th anniversary, remastered versions of the first three Poison albums: Look What the Cat Dragged In, Open Up and Say...Ahh! and Flesh and Blood were released by Capitol Records on August 1. Bonus tracks were included in all three.

With a cover of Grand Funk Railroad's We're An American Band., Poison had enjoyed a lot of success in 2006 . They are no more strangers to recording covers on their albums.

Poison will go on a summer tour with Ratt during 2007. They will also release the covers album POISON'D on June 5th through Capitol Records
