In 1988, Kaas released her debut album Mademoiselle chante... that peaked at number two on the French album charts and remained there for two months. Shortly after its release, the album went gold in France, reached platinum status three months later and a diamond status in 1990. That same year Kaas released her Scène de vie album that went straight to number one on the French album charts and stayed there for ten weeks.
