After performing for grownups for more than fifteen years, Los Angeles-based culture-mashing band has now come up with shows called Ozokidz, which are meant to entertain children. With this new brand of music, the group presents an exciting mix of funk, samba, dancehall, salsa, hip hop, and Latino, making a completely different sound than any other music. In the last few years, the band has been concentrating on coming up with intriguing ways to get involved with children through an all new kids' musical front. In 2012, they released their first children's record on Hornblow Records called Ozomatli Presents Ozokids. Through this side project, the musical fusion group wants to reach out to the kids to educate them on social values while alongside allowing them to gain exposure to various musical styles. The music features an intriguing combination of high energy beats and socially-aware lyrics.
The Ozokids concerts are really supposed to be high-energy shows from the beginning to the end, prompting the laziest kids to bounce about. It is no surprise to see why Ozokidz tickets are such a sought-after treat among families and children looking to gain a fun musical experience.
The Ozokidz band currently comprises of Wil-Dog Abers as marimbula-player and bassist; Raul Pacheco as vocalist, jaranist and guitarist; Mario Calire as drummer; Jiro Yamaguchi as background vocalist, assorted percussionist, tabla and cajon player; Haddaway as backing vocalist, keyboardist, melodist, saxophonist, and requinto jaracho-player; Asdrubal Sierra as lead vocalist, pianist and trumpeter; and Justin 'Upo El Chutney' Poree as rap vocalist and percussionist. The group was initially formed to perform in Los Angeles, at labor protests more than two decade ago. It passed its early days being part of everything from community activist events to earthquake preps in elementary schools in the inner city. They have since been synonymous with LA, such that their music is now represented by both Los Angeles Clippers and Los Angeles Dodgers.
They recorded an incredible street-view travelogue titled City of Angels, which was to serve as the new urban anthem. The band has been featured among the most prominent Los Angeles figure imaging campaign called We Are 4 L.A. which appeared on NBC. More interestingly, they hold a record for thrice headlining the awaited Hollywood Bowls of 2012, 2010 and 2008.
Ozomatli that has recently produced the Ozokidz album and shows, was formed in 1995 and in its many years as a multi-cultural act, the band has gone from being known as hometown heroes to receiving the title of Cultural Ambassadors of the U.S. State Department. The group has upheld to main identities, being the voice of their home city while also portraying themselves as any other citizens in the world. their music has been described to present a collision of hip hop, salsa, urban Latino, reggae, Indian raga, dancehall, funk, cambia, meringue, comparsa and Jamaican raga elements, all of which have been combined and shuffled together to form the mantra that asserts the band will take its audience around the globe by merely taking it around L.A.
At Ozokidz concerts, the band manages to maintain the same excitement level by using a broad range of sounds and by treating each of the songs individually and differently. For example on the song We Are The Ozokidz, the group has incorporated a drum beat that sounds like an actual drumkit in a room; in the song Sun and Moon, they have reflected on the theme of other-worldliness by using lightly tapping electronic drums, while the percussion of the track Like Your Birthday features a party-rocking beat with bursting kick drums characteristic of club-ready atmosphere. Given children's short attention spans, this kind of constantly changing sound with attention-catching sudden beat, keep the concert's energy alive. The overall performance is quite modern, crisp, clean and brash, which happens to work at tying the various musical elements together into a novel whole.
This is a children's concert that cannot be missed, so hurry on and grab some cheap Ozokidz tickets while they are still there.
