Otep
Otep is a name of an American nu metal band, which is also termed as OTEP or OT3P. The band was formed in the year of 2000 in the lively city of Los Angeles.
There are four members in the band at present including vocalist Otep Shamaya, guitarist Aaron Nordstrom, drummer Brian Wolff, and bassist/background vocalist Evil J. McGuire. Otep was formed by Otep Shamaya and Evil J. McGuire.
The band used to perform area shows, and it was noticed by Sharon Osbourne, who was so impressed by the performance of it, and offered a spot for the Ozzfest 2001 tour. The band had not signed any contract with the labels, but had offers from many of the companies.
Capitol Records had an agreement with the band; they had performed another showcase before signing an agreement with them. Otep had recorded their first record for Capitol, which was an EP under the title of Jihad. In the next stage, Otep had released two albums Sevas Tra in the 2002 and House of Secrets in the year of 2004.
Their second album, House of Secrets had been produced by Greg Wells in Los Angeles at Rocket Carousel Studios. Otep had again performed at Ozzfest in 2002 and 2004 respectively.
There was an inclusion of another member, named Melissa DeGott, who played as rhythm guitarist after joining the band at the start of 2005, but she had departed after only an year in 2006. The band members had thought her, to be too young for tours.
The band had started a North American tour in November 2006, for the promotion of their upcoming album titled The Ascension. Otep had announced their cancellation of agreement with Capitol Records Music Group, in the May 2007.
The band had supported the Static-X tour which ended June 13, 2007 in Las Vegas. Their new track March of the Martyrs had been released through Internet on the band's music player on their official MySpace page, for a short period of time. Their album The Ascension was released October 30, 2007.
The band released the samples of all othe songs in the album, on their official website, for promotional purposes. They were recently on the Balls, Volume, Strength tour with Hellyeah and Bloodsimple.
The first video for the third album, the song Ghostflowers, had followed the cover of Nirvana's Breed. Otep Shamaya had also quoted that they were interested to make their next music video would be the political anthem Confrontation.
Otep has performed in a wonderful way, at the 2008 Democratic National Convention held in Denver, on August 25, 2008. They have also released their new music videos in the current year.
The album leaked onto the internet on July 10, 2007. The album also debuted at number 81 on the Billboard 200 with 10,200 copies sold.
