The offspring is one of the few punk rock bands who are known to revitalize the Punk Rock genre during mid 90s when the interest of punk rock fans started to drift away from it. The band was originally formed under the name of Manic Subsidal by the forming band members Dexter Holland and Greg Kriesel. Both of them were school mates and formed the band during their school days. After the formation however, the band was in need for a vocalist, for which they inducted Doug Thompson in the band, along with their school janitor Kevin 'Noodles' Wasserman. To take the place of the drummer, Thompson's friend, Jim Benton, stepped in, however later both Thompson and Benton were out of the band and James Lilja took over as the new drummer of the band, while Holland took charge as the vocalist. Later on in 1985, the band was renamed to their current name, The Offspring.

The first single entitled "I'll Be Waiting/Blackball" was released by the band on self created record company, the Black Label Records in 1986. Later in 1989, the band released its self titled debut album, The Offspring on Black Label Records. Limited units of the album were released, however in 1995; the album was properly released on CD's. Band's debut album was produced by Thom Wilson. Wilson was also making efforts for Offspring to be signed by another record label, The Epitaph Records, but band's debut album was not able to convince the owner of the label, Brett Gurewitz. However, after a while, The Offspring released its Baghdad 7 E.P that was once again produced by Wilson, and it was enough for Gurewitz to give the band a shot at his record label.

Band's second studio album entitled Ignition came out in October 1992, and came out to be a success; more than expected. Following the release, the band went on tour, in support of their second album, for the next two years.

The Offspring's following album came out to be the break through album for the band, entitled Smash; it was released in 1994 and after selling more than 16 Million copies, the album was cited the Best-Selling album by an independent label of all times. The album received certified 6x Platinum Status by RIAA. Handed in with some extra amount of cash, Holland and Kriesel decided to form up their own record label, which was named Nitro Records, and started signing other Punk Rock Bands such as Guttermouth, Jugdead's Revenge and The Vandals.

In 1996, the band once again headed to studios to record their fourth studio album, Ixnay on the Hombre. By that time, The Offspring left the Epitaph Records and signed up with Columbia Records instead. The album was released on February 4, 1997, and came out to be a mediocre on the part of sales as compared to Smash.

The band once again rose to mainstream success as they released their 5th studio album entitled Americana in 1998. The album featured Offspring's biggest hit singles, Why Don't You Get a Job, The Kids Aren't Alright and Pretty Fly (for a white guy).

Band released it sixth studio album, Conspiracy of One, on November 14, 2000 on Columbia Records. Initially band desired to release the album on their official website to show their support for online music downloading however they were prevented from doing due to legal actions that were intended by Sony, parent company of Columbia Records, on such course of action. The album debuted and peaked at # 9 spot on the Billboard 200 Album Chart and received certified platinum status after five weeks of its release. Original Prankster was the first single from the album, and also the only track that was released on their official website.

Band's next album Splinter came out in 2003, while their latest album Rise and fall, Rage and Grace was released on June 11, 2008. The album was produced by Bob Rock and was released on Columbia Records. The album peaked at # 10 spot on U.S Billboard 200, while on Japanese Albums Chart; it peaked at #1 spot.

The Offspring will be putting their tour on road on May 15, 2009 as they hit the Riverfront Park in Nashville; TN. Cheap Offspring Tickets are available for their current world tour. The tour will conclude on August 29, 09 as they Perform live at Rock en Seine Festival in Paris, France.
