New Orford String Quartet was formed in Canada forty five years ago as Jeunesses-Musicales du Canada summer camp at Orford Art Center. The very first performance of the quartet was staged in August of 1965. Today, after years of touring and recordings all across the globe, it has become among the top illustrious musical ensembles of Canada. After twenty six years of performance, they had arranged around 2000 concerts in six continents, the quartet disbanded in 1991. The last performance was staged in July. New Orford String Quartet took over the remains of the band in 2009 and managed to find success again. In a very short time the team has managed to gather a lot of fame, arranging annual concerts at Orford Arts Center which is aired nationally by CBC Broadcast. New Orford String Quartet's Jonathan Crow is the violinist. He is also the Concertmaster of Toronto Symphony Orchestra and belongs to British Columbia. He initially joined Montreal Symphony Orchestra right after he completed his degree in Music. He has performed a number of classic pieces such as Violin Concerto by Tchaikovsky. Andrew Wan is a musician, concertmaster and soloist violinist. Crow was titled as Montreal Symphony Orchestra's Concertmaster in August of 2008. He has performed as soloist for a number of orchestras in Montreal, Julliard, Toronto and Aspen. He has also performed extensively all across the globe and continues to be a part of New Orford String Quartet.
Erick Nowlin of New Orford String Quartet won second prize in Walter W. Naumburg competition 2006. He s the violist for the quartet and has performed in the United States as well as all across the globe extensively. His past accomplishments also include Irving Klein International String Competition's first position. Brian Manker is Montreal Symphony Orchestra's Principal Cellist. He has been a teacher as well as performer during his career and has performed across North America as well as in several other countries. He continues to be a part of New Orford String Quartet.
New Orford String Quartet's debut album came out in 2011 through Bridge Records. It was an instant hit and is considered as among the top CD's of the year 2011. It was nominated for a Juno Award the next year and has been described by the critics as "intense and stunning" combination of classic music.
