Mohit Chauhan has been a playback singer of several popular Bollywood movies since 1998. He was formerly the frontman of the famous Indipop Silk Route band. The star was born in Himachal Pradesh and never actually received any sort of formal music training. He taught himself the guitar, flute and harmonica, and started singing at a very young age. After completing his graduation, Chauhan decided to move to Delhi, where he wanted to pursue a career in music. He formed the Silk Route band with his friend Arpit Gupta. Together, they released two studio albums, "Boondian" and "Pehchan". Their song Dooba Dooba became an instant hit.
Shortly after the success of their second album, the band dissolved. For a short period, Chauhan stayed away from the music scene, returning in 2005 as a solo artist, with the release of the song Guncha. He had composed it for the movie "Main, Meri Patni Aur Who". A.R. Rehman, the famous composer got impressed by his strong vocals and asked him to sing for the acclaimed movie, "Rang De Basanti". He provided vocals for two songs of this movie, Masakali and Khoon Chala. During the same time he also sang Pehle Nazar Mein Dari Thi for the movie, "Road". However, this still didn't bring the future star mainstream success.
When he was approached by Pritam, the music director to sing for the movie "Jab We Met", Chauhan finally hit the limelight with the song Tum Se Hi. The subsequent chart toppers were Ye Dooriyan for "Love Aaj Kal" and Tu Ne Jo Na Kaha for "New York". With these chartbusters, the rising singer and composer finally found stardom in the Bollywood music scene. He started being approached by several directors and composers to provide backing vocals for their films. In 2010, Chauhan was finally recognized for his earlier song "Masakali" and was honored with a Filmfare Award in the category of "Best Make Playback Singer".
This was followed by the release of two more super hit tracks, Pee Loon and Bheegi Si. Both of them were directed and arranged by Pritam. In 2011, he sang several songs for the movie, "Rockstar", which have become sort of anthems today. Apart from providing vocals for several famous film songs, Chauhan also arranges concerts and has performed at several festivals across India. He has been honored with numerous awards and recognitions over the years. These include Zee Cine Awards, Star Screen Award and GIMA Award. This year, he is going to travel all the way to the US to perform for his fans there. Joined by Mamta Sharma, it is also going to be the first time he is going to perform in front of the North American crowd.
Mamta Sharma herself is a well known playback singer, hailing from Madhya Pradesh. She is best known for her hit song Munni Badnaam Hui from the movie "Dabangg". The song won her several awards and recognitions, including the "Best Female Playback Singer" Filmfare Award. Now she is going to embark on the North American tour with Mohit Chauhan.
