As a part of Dallas Texas’s Granada Theatre concert series, the Memphis Music Fest is scheduled to take place on the 23rd of August this year. The event will be featuring some of the best musicians of today such as Eddie Floyd, Booker T, William Bell, The Bar-kays and Jean Knight. The star behind the chart topper ‘Knock on Wood’ and several other hits, Eddie Lee Floyd is all set to sweep the crowd off their feet with his performance at the Memphis Music Fest this year. The American R&B/soul artist is well-known for his albums recorded under the Stax recording label during the 1960s and the 1970s. The 76 year old star has been giving music lovers numerous hits to enjoy for the past successive 57 years. Eddie has recorded 15 studio albums to date along with 72 singles, many of which have been massive hits. His performances are always a delight to watch and leave people craving for more. Booker T. Jones, the famous songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and arranger will also be performing at this year’s show. Most popularly known as the leading man of the Booker T. & the M.G.’s, the instrumental funk/R&B band of the 1970s, Booker T. Jones is one of the few musicians who earned themselves a distinct recognition while being the part of a band. He was responsible for playing organ piano, guitars, bass and keyboards in the band and was also one of the founders. Along with his group he worked on several albums and tracks including the 1962 number one hit song ‘Behave Yourself’. Another hit single ‘Cruisin’ received a Grammy Award for the ‘Best Pop Instrumental Performance’ in 1994 which added to the band’s already substantial fame and success. Apart from that, Jones was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1992 and was also awarded a Grammy Award for ‘Lifetime Achievement’ in 2007. The maestro has received several other prestigious awards in his career up till now and his live performances are also loved by the audience.
Moreover, the Memphis Music Fest has arranged the renowned funk band The Bar-kays to perform as well. This Memphis-born band has quite a lot of hit singles to its name such as ‘Son of Shaft’, ‘Soul Finger’ and ‘Boogie Body Land’. At present, the group comprises of James Alexander and Larry Dodson, both of whom are extremely talented musicians and have delivered several rocking shows worldwide.
Furthermore, there are everyone’s all-time favorite singers William Bell and Jean Knight lined up. The legendary artist Bell has been inducted into the Georgia Music Hall of Fame and also the Carolina Beach Music Hall of Fame which is an honor few are bestowed with. Jean on the other hand is best known for her hit song ‘Mr. Big Stuff’. She has also been inducted into the Louisiana Music Hall of Fame for her contributions to the industry.
