Yes, veteran soul/quiet-storm group Maze with Frankie Beverly rock the stage and roll the audience wherever they play. Maze features a Philadelphia soul sound which is an amalgam of subtle jazz stylings and irresistible smooth grooves. This unheard of musical fusion, which nonetheless reflects Philadelphia taste and aesthetics, is widely recognized and embraced. The group is enjoying a buzz for themselves within and outside of the United States. With an infectious combination of talent, brain and experience, Maze has captured millions of hearts of people.

Even after a decade of the release of their album, Maze can still fill stadiums within no time. The group is currently on their summer tour, setting every stage on fire, one after the other. It's no less than a Hollywood scene when Maze men appear on stage and hordes of true music lovers erupt into screams. But, how has the Maze band managed to reach to the heights of success and popularity? Let's sneak a quick look at its history. The founder of the group, Frankie Beverly formed a band called Raw Soul in early '70s. He moved with his new group t San Francisco. Beverly's initial work and band's collective efforts quickly garnered the attention of Marvin Gaye who took the group under his wing.
Marvin Gaye had substantial contributions in turning the-then Raw Soul into one of the top R&B acts of the 70's and '80s. Gaye took the group on tour with him which proved to be exceptionally successful and the band since continued expanding their fan-base. The year 1976 saw Raw Soul settling on a contract with Capitol Records, changing the band's name to Maze and releasing a self-titled debut album. The album turned out to be a Soul Smash, spawning the hit 'While I'm Alone'. The distinctive Maze and its charismatic members become not only popular among soul and urban contemporary listeners but they successfully occupied a special place in the good-books of critics as well.

Following subtle jazz stylings and smooth grooves, Frankie Beverly and Maze released a string of well crafted and well received albums which extremely appealed to Soul music fans. Maze also released a number of such hits as Southern Girl, Joy and Pain, Back in stride, Love Is The Key, and Can't Get Over You. A few of them went straight to number 1 on charts. After a series of gold and platinum albums, the group quit Capitol in 1989 to join Warner Brothers. The Records released the album Silky Soul which was once again highlighted by the wonderful Marvin Gaye tribute title cut. The release of album followed Maze's yet another string of critically acclaimed performances.

Maze issued Maze Featuring Frankie Beverly in 1977, Golden Time of Day in 1978, Inspiration in 1979, Joy and Pain in 1980, Live in New Orleans in 1981, We Are One in 1983, and Can't Stop the Love in 1985 all on Capitol Records. They released Live in Los Angeles in 1986 on Alliance and Silky Soul in 1989 & Back to Basics in 1993 on Warner Brothers. The group also came up with several compilations which included The Greatest Hits of Maze...Lifelines in 1993, Anthology in 1996 and Greatest Hits in 2004 all on Capitol records.

Since their last release Back to Basics in 1993, Maze's line-up include vocalist Beverly , Carl Wheeler on keyboards, Robin Duhe on bass guitar, and McKinley 'Bug' Williams and Roame on percussions. Maze is one of the most talented groups by every measure and its members' ability to fuse soul and jazz with grooves and lyrics has gained for them a loyal following and great respect in music fraternity. The band continues to tour around the US and UK and is currently mapping dates through summer.
