Matt Minglewood is a fine artist, he is not just a singer but also a lyricist, music producer, guitar and organ player. He was born in Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada in 1947. His birth name is Roy Alexander Batherson. Soon he moved to Nova Scotia and since then he continues to live in this scenic area till date. While in his early teen he was participating in his local school dances and also used to play gigs with some local teen bands. Eventually in his late teens, he joined a band named Rockin’ Saints and started performing at local bars. He played in the band as a rhythm guitarist as well as an organ player. In 1969 he made a band with his musician friend Sam Moon. This band was initially named Sam Moon, Matt Minglewood & the Universal Power, eventually the name was changed to just Moon-Minglewood. Together these two regularly performed at various locations in the Dartmouth Halifax metro area. Matt also played guitar and sang as the lead singer for a band named Peppertree.
In 1974 Minglewood finally made a band that got him nationwide recognition and this band was simply called The Minglewood Band. This band mainly performed music in genres like blues, folk, root, rock and country. The Minglewood Band performed across Canada in a number of cities in garnered a sizeable fan following. In 1975 the group signed an exclusive contract with Solar Records and released the debut album titled The Red Album. Soon after this the group was signed by the music giant RCA Records. From 1979 till 1985 the band released albums like Minglewood Band, Movin, Out On A Limb, Smokers and M5. The first ever award nomination for the band was in 1980 when it was nominated for a Juno Award in the category of Most Promising Group of the Year.
From 1985 onwards Matt decided to pursue a solo career and he went on to release solo albums like Me and the Boys (1986), The Promise (1988), Drivin’ Wheel (1999), Live at Last (2003) and The Story (2005). His charting singles include “Livin Outside of the Law”, “Me and the Boys”, “Georgia on a Fast Train”, “Cajun Stars”, “You Win Again”, “Someday I’m Gonna Ride in a Cadillac”. During his career Minglewood has won a number of prestigious awards like Juno, Canadian Country and East Coast Music Awards. Currently he has an exclusive recording contract with Savannah Records.
Minglewood is now in his mid-sixties but even at this age music is his first and foremost passion and love.
