The Masters of Ceremony Hip Hop Reunion concert features a lineup of old school legends and greats in hip hop music, starting off with DMX. From Yonkers, New York, this hip hop legend kicked off his career in 1988 and has risen to fame as a rapper. He is also an actor, and has starred in a number of movies. His music has been released by the likes of Def Jam, Warner Bros and Bloodline.
DMX has also played and collaborated with the likes of Eminem, Ruff Ryders, Nas, Busta Rhymes, Eve, Swizz Beatz, Ja Rule, Drag On and The Lox. He has released Best Selling Albums in hip hop and starred in the hit reality TV series, DMX: Soul of a Man. His memoirs were a New York Times Bestseller and he has, overall, sold more than thirty million records worldwide. DMX has also earned numerous awards and nominations. These include three Grammy Award nominations, one American Music Award from two nominations and five MTV Video Music Award nominations.
EPMD, a famous hip hop group from Brentwood, New York, has been active in the world of hip hop since 1986. The group's music has been released by the likes of Def Jam, Sleeping Bag Records and Priority. EPMD has collaborated with a large number of hip hop artists, and inspired an entire generation. The group's two members are Erick Sermon and Parrish J Smith, and their name is an acronym for Erick and Parrish Making Dollars. EPMD, as one of the most prominent names in hip hop in the US east coast, has released seven studio albums so far.
On stage, they will be joined by rapper Rakim, yet another legendary hip hop artist who began playing hip hop in 1986 in New York City. His music has been released by MCA, Island, Ra Records and Aftermath. He has also been associated with the likes of fellow concert headliner, Big Daddy Kane, as well as Eric B, Kool G Rap, Marley Marl, Pete Rock, KRS-One and DJ Premier. He is also famous as part of what is dubbed the golden age hip hop duo, Eric B & Rakim. As one of the most skilled and influential MCs of all time, one of his albums with Eric B was ranked by MTV as the Greatest Hip Hop Album of All Time.
Rakim has been ranked as fourth on the Greatest MCs of All Time by MTV. Allmusic has praised him as 'near universally acknowledged as one of the greatest MCs - perhaps the greatest - of all time within the hip hop community'. About.com also ranked him Number One on their Top 50 MCs of Our Time and he has been nominated for induction into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.
