Marco Benevento is an American rock artist from Brooklyn who has been active since 2002 and established himself as one of the finest experimental rock artists in the US, blending this sub-genre of rock music with jazz and indie rock to create a style that is truly one of a kind. He is a musician who plays the piano, the optigan and the organ as well as a composer and a music producer. He has recorded a number of songs and albums, released through labels such as Royal Potato Family, Ropeadope Records and Hyena Records. Marco Benevento, a pianist, composer and organist, has been associated with a number of groups including the Benevento/Russo Duo, Surprise Me Mr. Davis and Garage A. Trois. He grew up in Wyckoff in New jersey and began playing the piano at the age of seven. He grew fond of improvised music and jazz at the age of fifteen and went onto study at the Ramapo High School, playing in local bands and even the jazz band at his high school. In 1999, he joined the Berklee College of Music and began his career in music. He was first a member of The Jazz Farmers for three years and became a regular in the experimental and contemporary jazz music scene in New York City.
Marco Benevento played and studied with the likes of Joanna Brackeen, Kenny Werner and Brad Mehldau. He also went on to collaborate with many musicians such as as Matt Chamberlain, Billy Martin, Andrew Barr, George Porter, Steven Bernstein, Johnny Vidacovich, Cindy Blackman, Charlie Hunter, Wayne Krantz, Stanton Moore, Mike Gordon, Jon Fishman and Trey Anastasio. He then went on to form the Benevento Russo Duo with drummer Joe Russo in 2001, making use of unique musical styles to create a sound that has since then attracted tens of thousands.
As part of the Benevento Russo Duo, Marco Benevento went on to perform live at many festivals including Lollapalooza, Fuji Rock Festival, Austin City Limits, New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival, Bonnaroo, SXSW, Wakarusa and High Sierra Music Festival. Early in his career, he had gained positive reviews from the media by magazines such as Rolling Stone and Pitchfork Media as well as newspapers like The New York Times.
In 2005, Marco Benevento joined Garage A Trois with Mike Dillon, Stanton Moore and Skerik and in 2006, he perform live with Bobby Previte as part of his European tour. He also performed with Joe Russo, Trey Anastasio and Mike Gordon the same year. In 2008, he released his debut album as a solo artist titled as Invisible Baby and followed it up with Me Not me in 2009. These albums featured a band made up of bassist Reed Mathis, drummer Matt Chamberlain and drummer Andrew Barr.
With this band, Marco Benevento went on to perform at various music festivals where many saw him live through Marco Benevento tickets. These festivals included JVC Jazz Festival, SXSW, the Newport Jazz Festival, the New Orleans Jazz Festival, at Carnegie Hall and the High Sierra Music Festival.
