Hailing from Arkansas, Luenell belonged to a family of eight children where she was the youngest one. Raised in California, she attended Castro Valley High School. She was only 10 years old when she caught the acting bug from plays, Ain'tS'posed to Die a Natural Death and South Pacific. To keep up with her passion for acting, she attended the theatre classes during his grade school years. She continued studying acting throughout her college years and later became a part of the Oakland Ensemble Theatre.
It was in the early 1990s that she started appearing regularly on Soul Beat TV along with Chauncey Bailey, the prominent journalist from Bay Area African-America. In 2006, she starred in the blockbuster comedy film, “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan.” She played the role of a prostitute, a hooker with the heart of gold and was among the few actual actors of the film. This film was the reason behind Luenell’s initial breakthrough.
Luenell was seen on various BET comedy series like Comicview and is also featured in the new season of Wild ‘N Out.
